IMDb's "popularity" ratings

are weird. I noticed Sing is only No. 25 and it's the second highest grossing movie of the week. Passengers and Assassin's Creed, which are both flopping badly, rate higher. What does their popularity rating represent?

It's how much they're looked up. Remember The Producers? "You can make more money with a flop than with a hit!" Money in the case, becoming more popular, because everybody wants to watch it after everyone is hating on it.

Kids/family movies aren't discussed as much, so they tend to struggle in the popularity ratings. It's popularity on IMDB, not overall.
