I'm 44 and my daughter is now 17 and we love these movies. They left off in such a good spot. As much as all the original people would be great there are plenty of voice people that could do a great job if some of the cast doesn't want to. But to me if your an actor and you make your money by acting do your job.
shareThe purpose of these movies is not to make a piece of art that will stand the test of time, but a blatantly consumably product, that has a pop culture shelf life of max 10 years or so, after which it will sink into obscurity.
It has proven a very successful model for Illumination so far, distinct from more ambitious Disney and Pixar. They have successfully supplanted Dreamworks, which couldn't quite figure out what kind of product they were turning out, and thus diluted and confused their brand in the minds of the public.
