One of the worst movies ever!

It was cruel to both humans and animals, pretentious, stupid, fascistic, and made absolutely no sense at all. It was also poorly acted and directed.

I give it a 2, and I'm being generous here.

You gave it a 2, so you did like some parts of the movie then. ?

reply

Yes. I liked when it ended.

The director seems to take a fondness of completely disassociating human nature and interactivity from what is conceived in our own reality. The Lobster and Dogtooth completely rewire sociological norms into things that are anything but normal, and they take off feeling more like social experiments more than they are anything remotely worthwhile sitting through as far as film, let alone artistic entertainment goes.

there's always the new Transformers.

Stick with Disney films

The first half taking place in the resort hotel was good. But it was terrible once he left the hotel and stayed with the "loners". I hated the 2nd half so much that it turned a good movie into a terrible terrible movie.

Totally agree!

you're still going on about this???

Agreed. I for one enjoyed it, while acknowledging I can totally see how someone would see it as pretentious art house crap (which is how I described the acclaimed movie Arrival).

reply

I agree with you david. I get why people don't like it. It's weird and untidy. But I enjoyed it anyway. I was frustrated by the stupid rules of the forest lady, but I found it still watchable. I think Colin Ferrell was really good. I wanted to like Arrival but I agree it was pretentious (I feel the same way about Nocturnal Animals - at least about the Amy Adams section of that one) And it's nothing against Amy Adams, I'm a big fan of hers. Anyway I didn't think this film dragged like Arrival did, it wasn't fast paced but I was never bored. And unlike the ending of Nocturnal Animals I didn't mind how this one ended. It fit in perfectly with the entire premise.
