I hate movies where none of the characters has a personality.
Movies like this, Napoleon Dynamite and Goodnight Mommy annoy the hell out of me because not a single person in them has a personality. They're basically automatons.

Every film director does things differently, because every person is different, and has different influences, tastes, etc.
The same thing could be said for pretty much every other line of creative work.
So how, exactly, is this "stupid"? It's simply the writer/director's way of doing things. If you don't like it, that's fine, but to call it stupid is simply moronic, and shows you know nothing about the many different ways of acting that have existed for decades.
