I think the scene works because it could so easily go either way. Like some have said, I can see it being true because he thought if he complied he'd be let go (Yeah, you might go for the bite, but you might not, even if you believe death is a minute away, you may want to extend it for that minute instead of bringing it on sooner). I can also see it being made up to upset the dad

It was just a metaphor Tarantino put in of his relationship with Harvey Weinstein.

It's probably the most bizarre scene in film history, that's for sure. I don't mind shocking audiences but seriously, some things are better left on the cutting room floor. We really didn't need to see that. lol...
