So both human armies were wiped out?
And that the second army in white were wiped out by the avalanche? I find that very hard to believe.

Why hard to believe?
(I think it was implied that's what happened, but i also wouldn't be surprised if we find out in the next movie that some survived)
Yes, and I don't understand why.
They could have just shown the humans enter the fortress and discover the Colonel, implying that the virus will soon take them out just like it did him.
Instead, they go for the deus ex machina natural disaster. :/
my thoughts exactly. no need for overkill of the avalanche.
shareExactly what I came to say. It was almost the best film of the trilogy until that lazy bit of screenwriting.
shareyeah, I know .. stupid... they could have left the 2nd/winning army alone... instead of killing all/most of them in the avalanche.
shareThey had an unsatiable need to show off their CGI snow making prowess. Like the CGI chimps weren't enough! They just had to do it!
This movie is basically a big CGI demo to promote their CGI production company. But man, they're really good at it!
I think it's possible that the full army was not there. I'm sure their leaders were not there.
shareYeah. Seemed that way. That's really my ONLY complaint in an otherwise phenomenal film. I forgive the unnecessary deus ex machina, because the rest of the film was so good, they earned an easy way out. I would have been satisfied with the Apes escaping the base, and leaving the human threat still out there. Leave the future a little more uncertain for Caesar's Apes. I'd have been fine with that. But either way, I simply say it's a case where it's more about the journey than the destination. Much like Logan (which this film reminded me of CONSTANTLY, which is a good thing), it's a personal odyssey, set against the backdrop of a larger event. This really was the culmination of Caesar's story, not that of his Apes. That story will go on.
Fantastic flick. Can't say enough nice things about it. Not often that the third entry in a trilogy is the best of them. This is clearly such a case. A 10 for sure.
Oh really? In a film with talking apes you find it hard to believe that such a huge explosion could cause a large avalanche and bury two armies? I least they haven't brought up time travel yet -- that's really going to warp your noodle.
They haven't brought up time travel in this modern series... YET. Don't be a Sarcastic Suzy, it doesn't suit you.
Apes don't hurt other apes. I liked it, the humans wiped each other out. Their is no winners in war.
shareI think they put that in there as another nod to the Moses / 10 commandments typology that is throughout the movie. The avalanche is the equivalent of the Red Sea wiping out Pharaoh’s army.
I know it doesn’t add to the realism but I was fine with it adding to the symbolism of Cesar’s journey toward becoming a mythic Moses like figure that frees his people.
Ha, yeah I noticed all the nods to Moses and the Children of Israel as well trying to escape from Pharoah.
Also, I don't think all the posters were paying much attention to Woody Harrelson's intent: he specifically chose that ammo dump in that mountain side up in the north and told the other army to come for him. It was a suicide mission regardless, something even Caesar notes to the other gorilla who thought as long as he did what was told of him he would be fine.
There was even a hint that triggering the avalanche was a last ditch effort based on how he had positioned the war board during his encounter with Caesar.
If he could beat the enemy he would take everyone out with him.
A pyrrhic victory didn't seem far removed from the Colonel's options based on the corner he had backed himself into.
~talking apes, something that literally could never happen due to the physiology of the simian throat/larynx/etc.~
"Sure. Disbelief suspended, no problem."
~avalanche caused by loud noise, something that happens virtually every single day somewhere on earth~
"OH COME ON."
