Hand job
this has happened to me plenty in my life, but I'm a woman.
Dudes do this to each other? Straight guys? How bizarre.

never
shareI initially thought Berchtold was going to take Jan's father to go and hire prostitutes (which would of course cause a rift in the guy's marriage) but nope! Twisty-twist!
shareNo, straight dudes aren't often inclined to just casually give a buddy a hand job for relief. I'm pretty sure there was much more than manual sex going on between those two, and neither of them were likely ever actually primarily heterosexual. No way were the Brobergs as naïve and gullible as they proclaim to be. They all wanted something from 'B' that they weren't getting via normal and wholesome means and 'B' was just a clever psychopath who wanted it all and would do whatever he thought he could get away with to get it. The Brobergs all need to take more responsibility for their actions. I believe the parents should actually have been prosecuted and jailed for their culpability in enabling Berchtold. They all should have known better, and very likely did. Just pathetic, weak-minded and shallow-spirited people. Their dimwitted phony victimization does not impress me, though I empathize with them and hope that they have all made better persons of themselves.
shareB was an evil genius, the hand job and the affair with the wife was just a set up, in case things went south, and they did, so he could blackmail the family. B told them if they continued to press charges he would tell everyone in their community and Church that the Dad was gay and the Mom was a......loose woman.
So you're right. The Parents dropped the charges and compromised their daughters safety to shield their Pride. Despicable.

A pathology is an illness, whether it is compulsive or not. Sociopaths are cunning and decisional, but they are still gripped by forces beyond their actual control, surface appearances notwithstanding. In the vernacular, sociopaths are crazy, evil and bad.

They are a good example. I will stipulate that I am Christian, in addition to having a background in clinical psychology, so I have at least two prejudices: (1) I believe in free will, as I tentatively infer do you, and (2) I believe in an evil intelligence in Creation that manipulates (perhaps mainly by seduction, which is not necessarily sexual) certain willing subjects to the goals of evil. The willful decisions of sociopaths may not be as much a product of free will as they prima facie seem. Be that as it may, sociopaths are more subtle, and I think deadly, than psychopaths. You need Dirty Harry to handle a psychopath. You need Dr. Hannibal Lecter to handle a sociopath. Or a really lucky cop with a freaking howitzer.
shareGood stuff, Kane; thanks.
shareMost welcome; but Kane is not my family name. I am R_Kane. I’d prefer that is how friends like you address me, Wuchak. Thank you.
shareOkay, people are welcome to call me Wu though. :)
shareYou got it, Wu.
shareI'm assuming your namesake is based on 'arcane' (which would explain why you don't want to be called just Kane)?
Don't answer; you're probably thinking "Ya think?"
No, it’s a perfectly fair question. My initials are RK, so my online name is both an adjective, as in “of, or pertaining to, things RK,” and also an expression of my over-rising passion, which is how and why energy flows through Creation.
shareInteresting explanation; you put some good thought into your online handle.
My moniker is the English butchering of the Algonquian for "woodchuck," lol.
Your definition of a psychopath is so wrong. Why do people try to teach others about shit they have no idea about.
You have no actual idea.

First, I always reserve the right to be imperfect, because I am human. Second, I’m not here to conduct a class. When and if I am, you’ll know. I’m here to taunt a troll who claims s/he is “reformed” without the benefit of psychotherapy.
EDIT This is for Vprst. The system dumped my post here. Once again: imperfection.
Get over yourself, Kane
Nobody seeks a class from you since you're not qualified as an M. D., and having a "background" in psychology (assuming that you actually do) means squat, nor does it mean that you are are particularly well-trained/educated (same as a plumber)
Can you say "Narcissist"?

Ha! true dat!
shareThat was bizarre. Any male friend said that to me, I'd just say 'so go jerk off then'....
shareexactly.
shareI saw this recently, and thought the same thing: Why didn't he tell him to take care of his own self?
shareRight give himself the old Uncle Upton umbrella finger puppet special
shareYou mean, why didn’t he take himself in hand? Palsy, maybe? Nails needed clipping, but, you know . . . lazy Millennial, if you’ll pardon the redundancy. What is more important is that CATBOOKSS😺 IS BACK!! Praise The Lord and pass the ammunition. Much missed, my esteemed friend. For those of you who don’t know, prepare to meet a charming, intelligent, kind and valuable poster. She is not a member of what Dazed aptly called the MC Boys’ Club!
Nor am I.
Yes, that exactly. Why didn't he? Such an odd thing, raggedy nails or laziness notwithstanding!
The whole scenario is incredibly bizarre. This same sociopath kidnapped their daughter -- twice?! And sexually abused her all the while? 😳
❤️ Thankee for the warm welcome back and kind words, R_K.

Yes. Of course, to each their own. However, this thread is not about homophobia, it is about understanding the motivations of the real people in this film.
Sexuality is part of the human condition, and can be complex, I see nothing wrong in discussing such things in an open forum.
In the case of this family, turning the other cheek led to devastating consequences.
Thanks for clarifying, Laura. It takes courage to have a conversation like this and to express it in sincere form. Your honesty and tactfulness is most refreshing.
Turning the other cheek was never meant to imply ignoring bad things going around one is aware of, not taking action or responsibility. Rather, it meant not making a big deal out of frivolous things, which in this case, everything had a negative consequence, as you say, with huge ramifications and hurt lives; nothing frivolous about it.
My comment was more directed at sex acts people choose to perform on each other in private. One's sexual intimacy should be of no concern so long as it's between at least two consenting adults who have taken necessary precautions in ensuring nothing harmful is transferred during intercourse.
Sex itself is wonderful. It is a joy and a gift no one should be ashamed of or discouraged to discuss. It is an experience everyone should have the opportunity to feel during their lifetime. To deny it would be to deny we're human, and humanity is paramount to the pillar of our identity, a recurring part of our natural existence.
What happened between the two men was nothing more than exchange of a commodity in an power-trip display between manipulator and a weak-willed person desperate to explore his sexuality in a manner outside of social inhibitions. Emotion was not genuine; no love, kindness, or affection. One man's body got treated like a toy and the experience left him empty instead of fulfilled.
True feelings for another person and people is manifested in love. True love is getting out of the bed to check on your hollering infant in its crib so your life partner doesn't have to. It is taking time off of work unexpectedly to check on a loved one's declining state of mind or having to take disciplinary action for the loved one acting out at school. It means being there thick and thin for your loved ones, sacrifice and commitment. You put up with all this crap because you love them.
You have given me a lot to think about. We can only hope to have more heartfelt conversations like this. You are a cherished treasure who cannot be bought or have a price placed on you because your value is inherently intrinsic; comes from within. Thank you.

Hand jobs between straight men don’t exist afaik
This whole story just didn’t add up for me
^ Yes, it didn't add up for me either. Something's very off about this story, and I don't mean the obvious.
shareIt's not a straight guy thing.
However Broberg doesn't need to be gay to be persuaded into doing it.
He may have been yet another sexually repressed gay Mormon, but he also showed signs of autism and extreme naivete.
Someone like that could be convinced into giving a "helping hand" for "relief". He may have even felt "hip" and "cool" afterwards, because he gained the approval of someone as cool as Berchtold.
Straight as an arrow and i almost fell off my couch when i heard it.
the answer is No.
