The Orange County Hate?

What the heck..."do you only see white people" and "I hate Orange County"? Issues much? I live in North Orange County and I assure you it is diverse, at least where I am. Would the writer have gotten away with this if he named any other place and any other race? I doubt it.

I grew up in Huntington Beach I love Orange County. Have not seen the movie yet just responding to your Orange county hate topic.

Yeah, that assumption always bothers me. There's many diverse areas to Orange County. In fact some cities, the Latino and Asian population out numbers any other race. Whomever assumes Orange County is just full of a bunch of rich white people should try driving through Santa Ana, Orange, Anaheim, Westminster, Garden Grove, Stanton, Costa Mesa and many other areas.

I didn't get the movie at all. She has an accident, son dies and she decides to become a drug addict with no morals? Orange County is about as diverse as you can get. Like I said, don't understand this movie.

It's very easy to judge people when you have no idea or no empathy of what they have gone through. She was in constant 24/7 pain and couldn't even handle car rides. The pills were her way of coping with the physical and emotional pain. She not only lost her health she lost her baby. No morals? What are you talking about? She treated her her housekeeper and friend with kindness...not to mention that stupid blond girl too. She was just going through a mourning period. You seem like a person who needs a little more life...

reply

Riiiiiight. And what would be written if she made generalized racist comments about her trip to Mexico? It’s still safe for Hollywood to stereotype conservatives. For this movie the writers needed to show their PC bona fides to provide cover. There is no other reason for Anniston’s character to go on the Orange County diatribe out of the middle of nowhere like that.

Orange County has that reputation. It may not be entirely true, but it is wealthier, whiter, and more right wing per capita than most other counties in CA.

Orange County seems an easy target for those who resent rich, white Republicans – and there's so much more to the county for those who care to discover it. I found her contempt for Orange County humorous in its severity, but the rant seems to reveal more about her than Orange County.

I live in north Orange County and her rant while stereotypical made me laugh. OC has that reputation of being where all the "white people" essentially moved to during the "white flight" of 1960s and beyond. Lots of cookie cutter home associations and hardly any character except for the older little downtowns. Some areas are notorious for having white supremacist groups and the KKK have presence. It's one of the most conservative areas in California. There are people like me that don't look white, aren't terribly rich and are very liberal minded, but I believe I am in the minority.

Could be because the accident that claimed her son's life and gave her that illness happened in OC. Just pure speculation though.

North Orange County is VERY different than South Orange County. Just putting that out there. Both diverse for sure but I feel like North Orange County is even more diverse and its also much more city like. Here in South Orange County its more suburbs.

I was just about to say that! North Orange County is vey diverse and honestly not all tha posh, but south Orange County is definitely much more affluent and has a lot more Caucasians. That being said people seem to not really have a true grasp on Orange County.
