I think this would've won best picture if Meryl Streep was in it. She could've pulled it off without getting fat and without makeup. Jen should stick to the dopey roles that she is so good at.

shareI disagree. I was very impressed with Jen's work in this film. She's had the bad luck to get cast in some real clunkers (more often than not) but the serious dramas I've seen her in has shown she has real talent as an actress. Like her ex-husband Brad Pitt, though, she hasn't gotten many opportunities to show what she can really do.
I think Jen was well cast. Meryl Streep would have been much too old for the part. Not only was she right for the role, but I think it was admirably courageous to let herself be filmed looking so unflattering. A little heavy, bad hair, appearance of no makeup, frumpy and tired looking.
I don't think this was ever an Oscar-caliber film, but I do think Jen's performance was worthy of a best actress nomination. I forget now...did she get one?
She wasn't nominated for this. But... I am pretty sure she was nominated for Friends. She really is fantastic playing really the dopey girl next door.
