In the hallucination sequence with Claire in the hospital after the drug overdose, Nina appeared with a large cake covered in white icing. So why then, when Claire commissioned the teenager to bake the cake, did she ask for a yellow cake with chocolate fudge icing? Was there any significance, or did the director think a cake with chocolate frosting would be more tantalizing to viewers?

Can't think of any significance, maybe the director just really thought "chocolate fudge icing" sounds more delicious than "white icing".

Nina's cake was for her child. Perhaps Claire's cake was for her boy as well - that is, perhaps that was his favourite cake.
