I'm having trouble understanding the whole green eyes thing during the scene before the 4 of them left for Aurodon and in the coronation scene. I thought at first it was a way for Maleficent to control Mal then it made a little more sense how Mal could have done it to Maleficent that turned her into the lizard. But I'm still not 100% that's what it is

The director said it was done to lead into another movie hopefully by making it look like Mal is somewhat influenced by Maleficent still or the evil side in her which would mean more storyline for a sequel. However I assumed it was just a shout out to Michael Jackson in Thriller. It was almost the same pose with glowing eyes that Michael is in at the end of the Thriller video with Vincent Price laughing maniacally.

I think that the whole green eye thing is actually a who's more powerful and it physically hurts when you are the weaker one and Mal didn't turn Maleficent into a lizard she did that to herself probably as a way for her to figure out how to defeat her daughter who has become more powerful then her and being a teeny tiny lizard makes her seem less of a threat and a wasmall to bide her time
