Grace Point cancelled

I read that GracePoint is cancelled no season 2,but in Britian Broadchurch is coming back for season 2 so hopefully season 2 will be on BBC AMERICA.We will still see David Tennant.

Gracepoint is not cancelled. It is a 10 episode miniseries. There was never going to be season 2.

I don't know why that is so hard for people to understand.

To be fair, Gracepoint was billed as a mini series but it was promoted on facebook and various other sites as a 'season' thus giving the idea that it's a season, not a mini series. Secondly, let's be real. Had the ratings been good (and they weren't) they would have come back with a second series, so let's not all pretend that was never an option. They came out and said due to ratings they would not go on with a second series. So technically yes, it was 'cancelled' even though it's not a traditional American season.

Because that is simply 100% untrue. It is just an assumption casual viewers have made based on the fact it's a 10-ep miniseries and the advertising use of "limited series." It's a perfectly reasonable assumption to make, but it happens in this case to be an incorrect one.

The plan and hope was always, always for Gracepoint to become a long-running show, just with a much shorter episode length for each season that is the norm. The cast, crew and creators have talked at length in interviews about Gracepoint season 2. The production took out multi-year leases on the shooting locations, and put the props, costumes, etc. into storage in preparation for S2 (they actually had a big set sale just a few days ago, evidence if anyone needed it that S2 is now officially off). The only reason S2 is no longer happening is because of the low ratings.

The show it's a remake of, Broadchurch, was the same in that S1 was a self-contained story (and actually Gracepoint's ending was a bit more open-ended than Broadchurch) but was secretly planned as a trilogy. Broadchurch S2 starts airing in a few weeks.

Are you still talking about a Season 2 or is this a self-contained story?
It was not meant to be self-contained and we have a lot of ideas and a lot of excitement about where it could go. It remains to be seen whether we'll get a chance to actually do that. It doesn't seem terribly likely at the moment.

I bet if it had received BIG ratings there would be a 2nd season

Actually Fox always labeled Gracepoint as a event-series and had a option to order more of Gracepoint if it turned out the ratings was there.

So in a way Gracepoint was cancelled.

Broadchurch season 2 starts on ITV on January 5th. It starts on BBC America on February 4th.

I have seen both shows, and both shows were good. However, billing Gracepoint as a mini series, then ending it in a clear sequel bating way, just didn't sit right with me.

reply

Yes, else they probably would have ended the season with a cliffhanger...

reply

It was clearly left open ended in case it got picked up for a second season so the 'limited series' title was poppycock.

BBC America will be playing Broadchurch 2 from what I understand. It's suppose to begin airing in January 2015.

It airs on British (ITV) in January. Usually, BBC America airs a series a few months later. I would expect to see it around April/May 2015.

I want my country forward

That sounds kinda strange to me, but I bet they realize there won't be a season 2 of Gracepoint.

The fact that so many people fall for 'limited series' cracks me up. That was a term made up by a PR person. It means nothing, the same as Hagen Daz it was made up.

Under the Dome was supposed to be a 'limited series' but it got big ratings, so now they are into the 3rd season this summer.

Gracepoint couldn't capture the heart and soul that Broadchurch has. It was a gutted version of it. Even David Tennant playing the same character fell flat.

I couldn't watch it and just watched the last episode to see how badly they would muck it up.

reply

"limited series" does mean something, networks are using the term for shows that have cable length seasons (usually 13 episodes or less).

reply

that is a limited season, not series. It is just a made up word.

BBC America will begin airing Series 2 of Broadchurch on Wednesday: March 4, 2015 at 10 pm est.
