Red herring? (Spoiler)
I was a huge fan of Broadchurch because it was brilliantly done. For this version, it was supposed to be another killer. While Joe has confessed, I think it's Tom, Miller's son.

shareI still feel like this is lazy writing, either way.
shareI'm beginning to see your point. It's the same.

People, it's a REMAKE! Do you think Rhett wouldn't have said "I don't give a damn" in a remake of GWTW? I liked that it was a twist and Carver figured it out at the very end. That look!
shareExactly! A remake IS the same show. Not lazy writing. When they remade the parent trap, were you all upset that the twins parents got together in the end? After all, that's just lazy writing isn't it?
shareWhat you're both missing are comments like this from the creative team behind the show making it out to be a much different ending so people who had seen Broadchurch would have a reason to watch.
While the EPs wouldn’t definitively confirm that “Gracepoint” features a different killer than the perpetrator in “Broadchurch,” Futterman told critics that his chief desire was, “I don’t want you to rule anybody out. That’s not to be coy, but I don’t think you should rule anybody out as a suspect. We end in a very different place, which is both exciting for the season and potentially exciting for what could be a great second season as well.”Interview http://variety.com/2014/tv/news/gracepoint-broadchurch-foxs-adaptation -differs-british-original-1201265784/.
So what? The original show was well thought out, which is why it was REMADE. Not an homage to Broadchurch, but a REMAKE.
shareSimply saying, "It's a REMAKE" is disingenuous because everyone knows it's a remake, and that's not what the complaints are about. The complaints are that, while it is a remake, the producers made it out to have substantial differences with a very different ending. That is not what it ended up being. That's the complaint, not that a remake had the same ending.

It's lazy writing for you because you didn't like it, it wasn't what you expected and you assumed it would be a different story/killer. Boohoo for you. I enjoyed it and loved the acting as well. We need more series like this
shareI agree with you, Dowtothewire_90.
However, the show really did have a different killer.
Many of the complainers just wanted a totally different story line, and many spent the entire series complaining, some even before it started, that the show was being remade. How dare they try to offer a good show to a larger American audience! They should all have to subscribe to BBC America!!! That's been the general attitude I keep running into on various board on the show. I don't think many gave it a fair chance.
They took over every discussion and when casual viewers check to see what people are saying about a show and find such overwhelming negativity, they're not going to give the show a chance. And maybe some viewers just wanted a lot of action or gore or something. I don't know.
I just wish the show had been given a second season to wrap up and expand on story lines. I'm just glad FOX played all 10 episodes.

I sat down yesterday to watch a certain program, and 15 minutes into, I already knew I didn't like it...I turned the station.
