Ellie - clueless, incompetent and stupid

She's not fit enough to be a traffic cop, let alone chief of police.

Its hard to imagine such a completely incompetent idiot ever becoming a detective. She had zero people skills for all her ranting and raving at Tennant about how good she was and cared about people. She didn't know her own husband and son at all, and pretended to know strangers.

And based on the final scene, she's also a criminal.

A lot of people in her situation would be. I think it's a mistake and that it would only bring pain and heartache in the long run, but parents will move mountains sometimes.

Uh, she's a small-town cop in a peaceful town suddenly thrown into a murder investigation. Together she and Carver did pretty good work and learned from each other, because he had experience in a murder case and she knew how to work with people and he wasn't good with people. I don't know why you say she had no people skills.

What is this "she didn't know her own husband and son at all" business? Is that i the "how could you not know vein?" That line, a callback to when she uttered it to Susan (which made me cringe), illustrates how easy it is not to know. People are fooled by their friends, neighbors, family members. Carver was fooled by Joe, too.

Did you like the show? I don't see how you could like it if you hated one of the two main characters that much.

What, like her UK counterpart was any better? She wasn't.

Coleman brought a toughness and rage to the role that I feel was lacking in Gunn's performance. With the original we got a sense that she was out of her depth at the beginning but also that she was tough and growing as an investigator. In the US version they neutered the character a lot and she comes off as more of a milquetoast

Unless Alpert's covered in bacon grease, I don't think Hugo can track anything.

She wasn't that bad of a cop, she was just too close to the situation.

Remember when she told Vince's mother, (paraphrasing) "How could you possibly not have know what was going on in your own house?"

She doubted Vince's mother, and it turns out that she, Ellie, ended up in the same situation. She had no idea what was going on in her own house.

Also, she told Vince's mother, "Why are you telling me you saw Vince (allegedly carrying the body)? I thought you wanted to reconcile with him, see him more?"

This indicates that she was shocked that a mother would implicate her own son in a crime. And that's exactly what she ended up doing.
