I know that both remakes were not as good as the originals. but come on! Gracepoint was much better than Secrets and Lies. S&L was very melodramatic, not to mention had random filler episodes. This at least took all the good cinematography and writing from the original.

S&L had more action and mystery elements, where Gracepoint stuck to drama and classic crime solving. I guess by acknowledging current TV fashions, they got that little bit more attention which was needed to stay on air.
Also S&L felt more coherent in the way it was styled: a not-too-smart show which did not pretend to be too clever. Gracepoint felt a bit mismatched in many ways, being caught between the motivations of the original and a free adaption. I could accept Ryan Phillippe as the rather generic lead much easier than Anna Gunn trying to channel that rather original Colman character.
I thought Gracepoint was always meant to be a one shot short series?

shareNo, it's a remake of a British show which was created as a trilogy, and right up until Gracepoint started airing the cast and crew were convinced it was going to be renewed. They put all the props and stuff in storage.
