Confused...

I just stumbled on this show while browsing imdb. The show summary sounded very familiar to something I've watched but I couldn't remember the actress in the poster so I kept reading.

Then I saw the name of the show that I have watched while scrolling the IMDB page i.e Broadchurch. The lead actresses are different. But the lead actor is same and the show premise also seem to be identical.

So what is this? Is it a remake? A sequel? Would I enjoy it? (having watched Broadchurch).

Please reply without any spoilers. Thanks!

This is a remake. This is the American remake of the British "Broad church," which was first seen on British TV. As whether you would enjoy it, I can't answer that, because, while I have seen "Broad church," I have yet to see "Grace point."

It's a blatant shot by shot remake of Broadchurch. And then the last 30 minutes of episode 10 is new material.

Shows I've watched http://www.imdb.com/list/ls072583934/ Any suggestions?

reply

It's a close remake but not shot by shot, especially as it has two episodes more than Broadchurch. The subplots with the kid being kidnapped, and with Hardy's daughter visiting, were both new for Gracepoint.

If you have enjoyed BC you probably would not enjoy GP. But then you just might as Tennant is in both.

I watched both "Broadchurch" (S1) and "Gracepoint" and enjoyed both. While neither show is great, they're both (equally) pretty good. I notice the British version is ranked higher here but I'd rate them both 6/10.

"While neither show is great..."

Broadchurch is great. All three seasons.

I think Broadchurch is so much better! Gracepoint is good, but it lacks a lot of the emotion and depth found in Broadchurch. Just my opinion!

I just don't get why David Tennant agreed to reprise the same role in an american remake, like?? I hold nothing against remakes, it's just so confusing to see the same actor playing the same role in another show with exactly same plot.

reply

The American producers wanted all new cast members but David wanted to reprise the role, possibly because it was a good payday, and he was so much better than the other actors they were planning to cast they kept him.
