kill John? I thought the height wasn't high enough and when he landed on car he would at least be unconscious?
I felt disappointed that he took the cowards way out because he deserved to do time for his crime. It was a heat of the moment thing but his covering it up and willing to let an innocent person pay the price repulsed me about him.
It was hugely anti-climactic. Had he taken a head first dive onto the concrete there's a good chance he would have died (brain injuries, broken neck) but landing on the windscreen of a car might only have resulted in cuts and bruises! I assumed when they ran along the railtrack that he would throw himself under an oncoming train, but then they had that underwhelming "chase" through the trees and his damb-squib high dive.
I wouldn't see any point in having him survive - what could he add to S3?
I assumed that the 'you don't die if you jump off here' from Catherine was a kind of misdirection included for the viewers who would not assume John was going to cop it there.
It was a way to lead us into complacency, especially after they began their talk-down dialogue.
Then...kaboom.
It apparently WAS enough to kill if he landed head first on the wind screen, which he apparently did, due to the heavy blood splash (had to be head, right, due to the rest of his body being covered in clothing?)
The brief shot of his body and the way he was lying hinted strongly that his neck was broken, as it appear to be a bit askew....
Wish that they had not show the traffic, prior to that death. It was obvious what was going to happen from the start of the scene. But then, the car/bus out-of-nowhere scene might be too much of a cliché, at this point.
Exactly - closing the street should have been instantaneous. Being it was so close to the police station, I also would think that they'd have a handy inflatable thing. But probably not many jumpers in that region. They shut down major interstates in the US, if a jumper is being talked down from a bridge - mainly to protect the drivers.
