American in need of UK Police rank name help

What is the difference between a DI and DCI? And between a DC and a DI?

They are all detectives (i.e. members of the Criminal Investigation Departament - and in plain clothes) lowest rank is Detective Constable then Detective Sergeant tnen Detective Inspector then Detective Chief Inspector.
