Women's hair

Catherine, her sister, the mousey school aide, all had that horrible, messy, unkempt looking hair that never seemed to be brushed or combed or styled in any way. I myself can't stand to have hair hanging over my eyes or face, so it drove me bonkers to see them with that going on. I just wanted to take a brush and pull their hair back into a properly fastened ponytail. Do they never want to push it out of their eyes? Is this some popular style that I am unfamiliar with?

reply

Nope, I guess it is called realism. I found it lovely to see, particularly when Catherine got off the couch after a night in the cold conservatory. The aches and pains were spot on. There is a lovely breed of people who could care less about how they look. It is wonderful. My teenagers are obsessed with every hair and I can't wait for them to realize it just doesn't matter. It's beautiful writing.

I found Siobhan Finneran's cheap Korean wig rather distracting. It was too full.

Americasbestchristian; I agree completely. It was almost impossible for me to think about anything but her hair when she was on screen.

When you realise the pay structure differences I noted in the last series. Our Killer detective lived in absolute luxury in comparison to Catherine who obviously is not on the take showing the contrast in earnings between a a DC and Uniformed Sgt. When you add in that Catherine was a detective you must wonder what she had done with ALL THAT PAY AND fiddled EXPENSES. She did not have £150 for a [scalectric] yet either the scum jailed Dad had saved up as suggested or the weasel besotted had a weaselled away a fortune. Mind that must have getting spent on travel and are we to believe that a part time teaching assistant scoops up a small fortune. If so it is no wonder that we have made this into a so called real job for it seems people with mental problems of varying levels. Of course working at times with the worst of the worst must cause breakdowns in dedicated teachers its worse when those involved have problems to begin with.

So Catherine will not be able to be manicured or coiffured. MY wife spends more on one session [monthly] with a hairdresser than I have done in ten years probably and that was on self cutting devices.

Therefore the alcoholic sister will never be able to get a hair do. She did not even do it for new love Con O Neill.

I say though that its Gritty ooop North [or whatever] and I have enjoyed these two seasons in just under two weeks of binge watching. Sarah and Siophan [what a silly spelling for chevon] and I am a native of the north of that island. No wonder we choose to speak a variation of English]. They do give me pleasure in interpretation of the story. Mind you everyone has given in this really good effort of showing what might be humdrum life. Little I saw was impossible or unbelievable.

Catherine is essentially a single mother who is also supporting her non-working sister and other people flitting in and out constantly. Also bear in mind that Catherine has a break down not too long back which took a huge impact on her career and salary. The detective was in a marriage where both people worked (his wife looked like a senior nurse).
However Catherine simply has more important things to think about other than the state of her hair and I say good for her!

Sarah and Siophan (sic) [what a silly spelling for chevon]

It's not silly (even when spelled correctly); it's not an English name so there is no reason for it to be rendered in whatever phonetic form you think sensible. And you're not really consistent, or you'd have represented it as something like Shevorn, rather than using a French derived word; I mean, what a silly spelling for shevron.

I'm the clever one; you're the potato one.

It's a British programme not an American one - I. E. realism and good acting are paramount to barbie looks and fast cars :-)

I never spot wigs, but I noticed the one on Clare straight away because it looks so...wig-like. I wonder what the story is there.

They´re beautiful women.
Honestly, I am a woman, straight, I couldn´t stop thinking how great it is to see women who are not *beep* and span and still so undeniably beautiful...
