Season 1 10/10, Season 2 7/10

How would you rank?

I was surprised to see this show had a second season when I finished the first. I thought it did not need a second season. But anyways I watched it and was right. Should've stopped sooner. I can understand why Sarah does not want to do a third season.

I am one of those who thinks that not every drama series needs a sequel. Quit while you're ahead, and all that sort of thing.

However, making a second series of Happy Valley was a risk well taken, in my not so humble opinion. It was brilliant and, quite possibly, better than the first. It's exploration of complex issues like good and evil, nature v. nurture, etc; has been sublime.

Now, if I'm asked whether there should be a third series, I might answer, "Quit while you're ahead".....

I thought season 2 was actually more fleshed out. They expanded the world and told several compelling storylines. I really enjoyed it.

I have to disagree, I think I may have actually enjoyed season 2 more which I previously thought would be impossible considering how much I loved the first season! Hmm...none of the replies so far have agreed with you.

I love the characters and am "happy" to get more. As far as an entire second series... Maybe not necessary. I just wanted a follow up to their lives after series 1. What happened to everyone? Tommy? Did things get better? How Ryan adjusted? Stuff like that. Just maybe a movie with a follow up one year later. So the 2nd series is welcome in my home.

At some point you realise that all these dramatic things just wouldn't be happening in a little place like that. It becomes a soap - like all those violent deaths, train crashes, fires etc in Coronation Street. Much as I love it and am attached to all the characters, it does become diminishing returns eventually.

On the other hand, I don't think John Cleese should have been so precious about Fawlty Towers. It was a comedy, so the possibilities were endless. Keep going until we tell you it's no good any more!

I was fine with the 2nd series and I agree with your rating. I just felt that the plot was good, but it really needed some re-writes. I hope we get season 3, Catherine is an amazing character. Her toughness is believable, unlike women on US cop shows who come across as if they are pretending to be men without a c/k.
