Episode 1 - the cemetery

Re-watching the show. I hadn't noticed the first time that as Catherine visits her daughter's grave, her grandson takes notice of the tombstone of Sylvia Plath.

It subconsciously implies Rebecca's suicide by association. A nice touch. Things like this make this show really stand out - it's very well executed and thoughtful in its details.

Right? Everyone keeps praising the show for how well written it is, but I think details like these are sailing right over the head of 80% of the viewers. Their loss, more for us.

Seriously though, it's nice to see shows that can be watched on many levels and don't feel the need to dumb it down for their audience, or to make everything opaque to look smart.
