Weepiest TV show of all time?

I'm only up to Part 3 and already there is a LOT of crying going on in every episode, along with plenty of post-modern "Do you wanna talk about it"'s and other forms of therapeutic sensitivity.

Jay-sus.

One or two crying jags is fine, no problem. But seemingly dozens of them on the part of Catherine (especially) and just about every other character in the story and it starts to get excessive.

Totally disagree.just not your type of crime drama. I think the've struck a perfect balance. Drama humor, action. Better then a lot of long running American shows in this genre.

Agree that Happy Valley is indeed better than most American crime shows, but by saying that, we are setting the bar very, very low.

Happy Valley would be even better if they dispensed with 70 to 80% of the postmodern, therapeutic, heart-on-your sleeve confessional stuff. One can have good, strong, rich characterizations without having your characters constantly declaiming about their feelings.

Older motion pictures seemed to strike the right balance for this. But now -- maybe because we are in a different, more therapeutic, touchy-feely age -- I guess the expectations are different.

I tolerated it in season 1 as it was a great show. I have stopped watching in season 2 though, too much crying and depression.

I would say my memory is not what it used to be. But I don't remember what my memory used to be.
