So I saw the movie yesterday, but havent read the book... question...

At the end of the "book" the boy looks at at the end, we see a picture of the monster with what looks like the boy's mom on her shoulder... Is this meant to imply that the "monster" is actually God? What did the book readers (and other viewers) think?

The book ended with Conor next to his dying mother. The ending was tacked on to kind of throw out the idea that the monster helped his mother when she was younger, probably with her father passing. There was a picture of Conors grandfather who happened to be Liam Neeson. I like to think the monster is his grandfather in spirit because the monster is voiced by Liam Neeson and in the picture of his mother and her father, it showed Liam Neeson. But yeah, the book ended in the hospital room.
