Sigourney Weaver almost completely ruined it for me

Sure her accent was bad, but her performance was good. Maybe it was to get American Audiences to the film? If that were the reason, then they failed badly.

Having read the book, Sigourney Weaver is perfect for the role. She is not too old-looking and she has a lot of energy, which is good since she is not retired yet. She has also this "mean-look" about her, very strict, while also being warm and vulnerable when needed, which makes us understand immediatly why Conor don't like her and still makes her a relatable character when all falls apart.

She really nailed the part.

As for her accent, I don't have a good ear for them, but I found nothing shocking there, and Weaver's mother was from England, so I guess she could have picked up an accent during childhood.

Who cares? She wasn't the most important character... Conor was. I judge a movie by how great the main character is... And Conor was awesome... It's a bonus when everyone around him is great too... So maybe she wasn't "great"... but if I let ONE supporting character RUIN the movie for me... I'm not really being fair to the movie's intentions.

Sigourney's acting (no surprise) was excellent in this film but her accent attempt was HORRIBLE! it kept pulling me out of the scenes she was in.

Honestly couldn't see that much of a problem with the accent. Some English people actually talk like that.

I thought Weaver was excellent. I think the problem is that she is so well known she is associated with her usual American accent. I'm English and had the same issue with Hugh Laurie in House because I grew up with his foppish English accent. Objectively her accent was fine, it was just a bit disconcerting because she is so well known

I agree, her attempt at a british accent was pathetic. And I can't believe people are saying "her accent was bad, but her performance was good". If you can't pull of a british accent when you're supposed to be playing a british character you're not delivering a good performance.

What is this obsession with people having to have a "real" person to play a certain part.
It's called acting for a reason. White people playing asian parts, an American playing a Brit, etc.
People go nuts anytime their little bubble of what they perceived what a character should look or
sound like after they have read the book, comic, or cartoon.
Anybody should be able to play any part that was originally any other gender, race, or region.
UK accented people play American roles CONSTANTLY, but becuase for some reason they do it better it's never been an issue. But when an American has to do a UK accent it's always a huge deal
because to People over there it doesn't seem authentic. Guess what, except for maybe Irish compared to Brittish, you all sound EXACTLY the same to an American. I've read or heard so many times where you guys are picking something becuase a person that lives in so and son area in the UK doesn't sound like that. Guess what, you guys sound ridiculous to everyone else. Different UK accents do not sound as different as different regional American accents, period.
