Can tell this is the director's first.

So basically a guy that makes pretty damned decent practical effects took it upon himself to write and direct a movie, huh? I've seen a lot of first time director's do heck of a job for a first, but this wasn't it. Cinematography was all over the place. He has no idea of what he should capture, why and when, at least not when it's not a special effects moment. Stuff like filming dialogue and characters, he picks all the wrong camera angles and movements. He is terrible at drawing a performance out of his actors. Even the experienced Lance Henriksen doesn't seem to know what his director wants.
I mean it's great that they tried, and practical effects is something worth fighting for, but I feel as though I myself could've done a better job on filming and editing this.
Anyways, overall, a groundbreaking movie. 10/10.

Yup, doesn't even know where to put the camera, most of the time.

I feel ya, OP. When you can tell that it's a director's first movie from how bad it is, it doesn't make for a very entertaining experience.
