My issue with this movie (spoilers)

My biggest complaint with this movie is the same complaint I had with the The Thing prequel - no creativity with the monsters/transformations. Why was everything a tentacle/worm?? Just like The Thing prequel - every monster looked like a vagina with teeth.

I understand the budget was low, but a budget has nothing to do with creativity. I appreciate the desire to do this movie, there was heart. But if you're only going to have one style of alien/monster in a movie that's about it "taking any shape/form it wants" at least make that ONE style of monster scary. Tentacles and worms haven't been "scary" since the movie Tremors. I did kind of like that one blonde female's transformation, but that's it.

Kinda disappointed by the result of this, I'm a HUGE Thing/80's horror film fan, so I was following this film quite a bit. I can excuse the lack of direction, acting, it's cheesiness, lack of care for the characters/character development, but I cannot excuse the laziness of the monster designs. :(

Maybe YOU just see everything as a vagina with teeth.

No, that's what I saw because it all looked like that. That's what it reminded me of. And if you watch it again, you might be reminded of it now that I said that. But is that really all you saw in my post? That's really what you thought replying to would make a good discussion?

Well, other person is right, you offered no other point of discussion. And no i did not think they all looked like vagina with teeth, so maybe it IS you?

Also, you think Tremors was in any way scary? It was a great movie, and very funny, but not scary at all.

Any kind of monster CAN be scary, if written the right way, you are right about that. I liked this movie, mainly because i LOVE The Thing, and this was more of that, even if on a tighter budget. So i can not complain at all.

I think that a "vagina with teeth" is probably the most horrifying thing most men can imagine.

thatdanghonkey while I think the acting could have been better from Giovonnie Samuels and the lead, Camille Balsamo, the moments where the acting was bad was maybe a few lines. The acting in this film was fine. In regards to your biggest complaint about the monster you mention the budget was low but they didn't do a good job with the monster? What were you watching? Did you see it on screen? It looked better in many instances than what you see in big budget films. Also if you didn't feel any tension from anything that was going on well I guess you don't feel it. As for scary well maybe they could have done some close up shots to make you happier and others happier but to me I don't see how this monster wasn't more than acceptable in this movie. Heck you even acknowledge the blonde female's transformation as being likeable so this wasn't all bad for you. Oh and hey take a look at The Walking Dead at times and that is a pretty popular show and some of their stuff especially in recent episodes I have seen doesn't look that great. So stop complaining about an above average monster in a lower budget film. The way you talk about it you would think this was garbage but I have seen much, much worse than what I saw in Harbinger Down. Oh and as for a lack of direction? The story made sense right to the end and had some intensity about it. The story didn't veer way off in some direction that didn't make the movie bad. Your issues with the movie are questionable. Oh and btw I have seen movies lately that made me think about The Thing and that is good. Is this movie to be rated as one of my all-time greats no matter what the subject matter? No. Was this a nice fun horror ride of a movie? Yes.
