Not Bad

First off, let me say that this movie is no "The Thing", which it quite obviously pays homage to. John Carpenter's movie is so unique that it is in a class all its own. With that being said, Harbinger Down isn't a terrible movie. I know there are a lot of people who are writing it off, but they're doing so unfairly.

This movie is a CREATURE FEATURE. It's a throwback to all of those video nasties of the 1980's, where the plot and acting may not have been great but the effects and creature creations were awesome! So that's how it should be looked at.

Lance Henriksen is a delight, as usual. He carries the film as far as acting is concerned. Come to think of it, this movie is a lot like another one of his recent movies (Stung), although the acting in that movie was better overall.

ALL of the effects in this movie were practical, which is always refreshing to say in this age of CGI. On top of that, it's like one big F U to the studios, as the effects company that worked on this film was the same company whose practical effects work was replaced with CGI in The Thing (2011). There were some pretty solid creature creations in this as well. A couple of weak moments, but overall pretty good!

I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10. Not the best, but certainly not as terrible as some people make it out to be. Since it's on Netflix instant, there's no great loss in checking it out.

I also gave it a 5. I liked the movie, I loved the characters, but it was missing a twist... or something.

It could be better, it could be worse. It is right in the middle of the road for me. Lance kept me watching until the end, the guy is a legend.

I thought it was solid. It's one of those movies that wastes no time screening meaningless boring scenes.

This would fit comfortably in a weekend binge-movie-fest of ALIEN, The Thing, Mimic and all the clone-movies from the same era.
