He was a dark, quiet, and menacing figure. Something we never would have got out of Pitt.

I don't see how replacing Del Toro would work, but sure he could replace Kate, just repeat his role from Seven. Though they would not meet female quota then. Though I was surprised there were no Asians and gays in this movie, very politically incorrect to have only female lead character with black colleague coughclichecough.
