It's funny how people respond to the good guys in movies like this. I suppose because Kate and Reggie didn't get the laugh lines, they're thought of as annoying, even though all they wanted was to do their jobs with some sense of honesty and integrity.
Brolin and Del Toro were great anyway. I lol'd when Alejandro muttered something like "you're afraid of the dark?" when the other two were demanding answers.
"What race are you? If you don't tell me I'll just...assume the worst."
Their naiveté and idealism are what is so annoying. In the world she was thrust into the bad guys don’t play by rules and if you attempt to play by the rules you’re going to get yourself and other killed and on top of that the bad guys get away with it. She missed the big picture and the primary objective of the operation and despite efforts to get her to see it she could not and Reggie was even more naïve and idealistic. I just didn’t buy his character as a west point lawyer.
Like with the bank scene. They tried to tell her, yet she went ahead anyway with her short sighted quest for justice and look where it go her…almost killed if not for Alejandro there to save the day. Or maybe they knew how she would react and let her set the whole thing up. Seems they intimated that.
And it wasn’t about laughs, this was a deadly serious film. I just like the attitude Matt had with Reggie. Matt was all about getting things done and he understands the terrain.
The fact that they didn't actually give Kate and Reggie the big picture didn't help. They were vague and evasive from the beginning. Matt only told her the whole truth at the end, after she found out by following Alejandro.
"What race are you? If you don't tell me I'll just...assume the worst."
