3 instant headshots in a row ... with a pistol
Alejandro gotta be THAT good to get these kills from a distance.
Edit: I was referring the gate scene

Bullsh!+.
BrokeBack Mountin: The greatest love story since Deliverance (Roger Alan Wade)
Alejandro shot Kate two shots direct to the stomach (from a few feet out) after he warned her not to point the gun at him or follow him. He obviously hit her in the Kevlar vest on purpose. So safe to assume Alejandro is some kind of super assassin or like the movie title Sicario.
shareCIA special forces training. You think them black ops guys learn to shoot at the local gun range?
share^ Indeed.
Nothing implausible about that scene at all, not for a well-trained and highly motivated operator.
3 stationary targets within 5-10 feet sitting around a dining table - like fish in a barrel.

"The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist."
I was talking about the gate mercedes scene.
There were all moving targets.
I agree with you sheltiknong ----- hard to believe especially when you are sitting in the back seat of a car and shooting through the window frame of the car door --- the last kill was a very difficult angle
also, it was awfully convenient to have a police car at his disposal when he emerged from the tunnel to use to run down diaz!?!?
Respectfully, you definitely want to watch the film again since you missed clearly explained elements in the film.
The police car at the end of the tunnel belonged to the corrupt Mexican cop who was delivering drugs to the mules using the tunnel.
The entire assault team was briefed on this and were told to consider any police presence as hostile targets. They had hard advance intelligence and KNEW that there would be at least 1 corrupt cop on site. Including at least 1 corrupt cop's car.
So not convenient at all, at least not in the sarcastic way you think.
And you should read my reply below to the other user to learn why you are also 100% wrong about del Toro and the guards sequence.

The Mexican cop wasn't corrupt, he was a victim caught up in the whirlwind. I'm saying this because if you miss this, you'll miss the whole point of the film. Look at the scene when they are taking the packs of drugs out of the police car. The cop is very flustered, and asks the other guy holding a gun to calm down. He was kidnapped, you see. After that, he gets killed by Sicario, just to further his plan of revenge. But as we know at this point in the film, the cop had a family. The message it conveys is that, while trying to exact vengeance, Sicario had turned into the man he hates, killing people and destroying families; and that perhaps revenge isn't the best solution. The final scene brings home this notion.
shareSomeone wasn't actually watching the film in question...
He wasn't even in the car. He told the driver to slow down. and the next shot he was in he was walking out of the shadows. If you join the dots.. and it isn't hard he jumped out while the car was rolling after knifing the driver.
Of course it is all very CONVENIENT that the driver didn't have his belt on and just drive it into a brick wall, sending the assassin head first through the windscreen, at any point during his journey...
What would be his reward from the cartel be were the assassin to even let him live. An even worse death. So his hostages, knowing the penalty for their failure, and worse their helping the enemies of their employers, would be looking for EVERY opportunity to escape or kill the assassin.
It is also very convenient that, being stabbed, the driver rolled very sedately up to the gate, stopped the car perfectly, and didn't hit the wall or anything. And that the door made absolutely no sound when the assassin bailed out.
His shooting three people from the shadows was the least of this films problems.
Watch again. He was not in the car when it pulls up to the gate. He's on foot, standing up walking towards them...
shareOK. But respectfully, you definitely want to watch the film again:
For the scene in question, when the car pulls up to the gate, Benicio is NOT in the car.
He already got out.
He explicitly said he was going to do that when Diaz asked him what will happen when they get to the house.
Diaz had his throat cut moments before the car made the final approach to the gate. But del Toro was already outside.
As for the shooting, no real indication all 3 gate guards were headshots, but even if they were, not implausible at all for a highly trained, motivated operator.
They were not on high alert, having already been advised that Diaz was en route, were basically stationary and grouped close together as they approached Diaz' car.
If you REALLY want to nitpick, you MIGHT be more justified in asking how Diaz was able to steer, stop and control his car so well right to the gate after having his throat cut.
Me? I don't find it necessary to dissect movies.

i couldn't quite stop wondering about that too, if his throat was cut, how and why did he pull up in a nice orderly way at the gate. also the compound was too lightly guarded, but that whole sequence was well done.
sharelol...indeed, I wondered about this myself.
Then again, I have never personally cut anyone's throat nor have I had my own throat cut. Add to my never having even seen anyone with a cut throat, well, I just don't have any valid way to judge whether Diaz' behavior was some kind of superhuman effort or not.
I hope I never find out. :)

i thought of what could be a plausible situation in which diaz is pretty much incapacitated when we see him (not driving nor having feet on pedals). alejandro incapacates him, puts the car velocity and steering wheel to roll on the appropriate course, and exits the vehicle right before the car becomes visible to the 3 guards (the gate conveniently had a sharp turn leading up to it).
sharemmmm, possibly. :)
Although I just watched it again and when the car pulls up to the gate, we clearly see a shot of Diaz with his hands free - his right hand is clutching at his slashed throat, his left hand appears to be on the steering wheel.
I guess that sequence could have gone like this:
- forces Diaz to approach the gate slowly;
- as it was quite dark on the grounds, except for the immediate gate area, so perhaps just before they arrive at the gate Alejandro slices Diaz' throat, reaches forward and throws the car into Neutral then exits the car...this would only allow the car to continue momentum rolling forward...
- scene progresses as we see it.
Eh, it's all good. Like I said, I don't generally like to dissect movies so much, especially for such terrific films like Sicario. :)
Bottom line: DelToro's character was a highly trained and motivated badass and everything we see him do in the film is totally plausible IMO.
cheers!

i like your scenario and summary of the situation. cheers!
shareYou have to remember that Alejandro told Diaz something along the lines of "whatever happens to your family is on you." That's why he obediently drove the car up to the gate, even with his slit throat.
shareYep. That supposed to be implausible/unlikely? He's a skilled operative who clearly isn't lacking in training or experience.
shareThere are tons of amateur IPSC guys who could probably pull that off. I don't think it's that improbable for someone who probably trained for years on marksmanship to do it.
shareJust saw the movie today and, even though I might be wrong, it seemed he shot the three guards at the gate with the silenced assault rifle he was also carrying.
But yeah, he apparently is quite some crack shot. :-)
He used a silenced mp5 and didn't pull out his silenced pistol until he had downed the gate guards and was entering the house. In that scenario, a silenced mp5 from that distance is perfect. Low recoil and in a trained hand can easily down three men in two seconds or less.
