What was the significance of the post credit scene?
What is Weapon X and the Essex corporation?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hey Sentient Meat, long time no see. Hope you are doing well.
Weapon X is Wolverine's DNA and I think Essex is related to the company that was breeding mutants for their own evil purposes in Logan, although Essex was not mentioned or referenced in that movie as far as I can recall.
It was supposed to be connected to the final Wolverine film alright. The Essex name itself alludes to Nathaniel Essex, otherwise know as Mr. Sinister, a big villain in the X-Men comics. He’s seen as an authority on mutant genetics only he has bad intentions (note: he came across Apocalypse and was transformed into a mutant himself).
Sinister was supposed to be the villain in “Logan” according to Singer, but the filmmakers of that film ultimately had other plans. As such, it was confirmed that the DNA samples the Essex agents collected in Apocalypse’s post-credits scene, which were that of Weapon X (Wolverine) and other mutants, became part of the cloning program that “gave birth” to X-23.
Thanks for the informative answer!
I was logged out of the site, for awhile so I didn't see the alert.
Yeah. I remember seeing Essex on the case and being a huge fan of the 90s cartoon and some of the comics, I looked forward to them introducing Mr. Sinister. What a waste though! Mr. Sinister ought to be introduced in the first MCU X-Men movie. Not as a main villain but as a behind the scenes villain who you might see briefly spying on the X-Men. Then do him as a main villain later on.

i think the post credit scene have something to do with the final Wolverine film: LOGAN.
shareLook back to the film itself, when the solder says "Weapon X is loose! Weapon X is loose!"
And it's Wolverine.
It’s supposed to set-up Mr Sinister as the next bad big guy.
From memory, Essex Corp also ran the evil orphanage in Deadpool 2.
Mr Sinister was apparently supposed to appear in Logan, and New Mutants as well as being the primary villain of a Beast spin-off pitch.
