I'm sure I'll get tons of garbage trash talking but this was way better than I expected it to be. I thought the trailer looked awful but I'll always give Sacha Baron Cohen a chance, and there was a lot of really funny moments in this. It was better than The Dictator that's for sure.
Yeah dude, I'm pretty bummed that it flopped so hard. Sacha is a gem and while this movie is definitely hit or miss it should've earned at least 20-30 million. I blame the trailer. It really was one of the worst trailers I've ever seen, and was edited to look like the studio had absolutely no faith in this movie whatsoever. The tone of the trailer was trying to elicit some buddy-cup nostalgia crap instead that seemed corny as hell.
I think trailers should start taking the route Zootopia did, and showcase an extended scene in the trailer, instead of giving an outline of the whole plot. It gives the characters a few minutes to connect with the viewer on a level not possible with traditional trailer edits. People get a taste of what the film is stylistically without it being spoiled; also, this reduces the chance of mis-marketing--this happens all the time: hail caesar, edge of tomorrow, crimson peak, etc.
Trailers play a huge role in the buzz a film creates for itself, and when it's so lazily thrown together like this with zero $hits given it does not instill faith in the consumer.
Totally agree. Terrible trailer. They rammed the poison in the balls scene down our throats until it was barely funny anymore. There's plenty of other great scenes, or they could focus on the action too. I only knew it was gonna be like a "real" action film because of an interview. The trailer does nothing to show that.
yeah, I was surprised. I was laughing hysterically a few times in this movie and thats rare today. Though those moments were absolutely disgusting and I feel quiet disturbed on how funny i found those parts. NEvertheless, the film was solid. I mean lets face it...the film was stupid. But as long as it's funny it can be stupid and work.
I have liked everything Sascha Baron Cohen have done (even Sweeney Todd, although musicals are not really my up of tea) - until now. Cringing a lot but hardly any laughs. I can easily say it was much worse than I expected.
Well obviously a LOT of people hated it haha, so there was bound to be someone to reply to this thread that didn't like it. But yea, I think it's much better than people give it credit for. Not a great movie by any means but plenty of laughs to make it worth watching.
Gave it a 6/10 so I liked it, yeah. Problem with it is that it seems Sacha didn't do the best that he could have and well, while not as good as 'Borat' or 'The Dictator' it's still pretty decent, imo.
Yer completely agree it got off to a shakey start but once his brother came into it the comedy and thrills never let up. I can see why alot of people won't like it since it's not politically correct and is quite coarse in places which I found hilarious and cringey at the same time. I give it a solid 7 since the footballing bits were *beep*
