Perhaps I missed it but was it ever covered in the last film what happened to Sam? Shia is a doucher but he's kinda missed in these films. He brought familiarity to the franchise and some heart to the silly robots. I guess Bay felt he needed to put a bigger star in the lead role because the first 3 didn't make enough money?? Sheesh.

Based on the fact that the series had already made nearly 3 billion in profit (first 3 films) at that point, that has got to be the stupidest logic ever!

No, the reason Shia LaBeouf didn't return is because 4th film was always intended to be a new, fresh story that would take the franchise into a different direction.

Sam and Carly are never mentioned in AGE OF EXTINCTION. If they are mentioned in this new one, I wouldn't be surprised if we find out Sam died between movies or something like that.
