My opinions so far of the TF Movies...

Okay, for those of you who don't know me, I love the Transformers Comics and Cartoons but I do not like the movies.

I saw the original and Revenge of the Fallen in theaters,( actually, I saw the original 2007 film twice!) and since I was a kid when I saw them, I really enjoyed them. I didn't see Dark of the Moon in theaters because I was going through a depression attack and I thought the film would be super-dark with Ehren Kruger writing the whole script and I didn't go see Age of Extinction in theaters because I thought the story about Humanity hunting Transformers was disgusting (same reason why I didn't go see Civil War and wasn't impressed at all by Batman v. Superman this year, I just don't like seeing good guys fighting each other). I own all four in HD on iTunes and am having a marathon right now.

Now, if you are wondering, why did I buy this series if I don't like it, let me explain: I'm the kind of guy who likes to understand both good films and bad films. It's like this quote from Frank Herbert's Dune, one cannot understand the light without understanding the dark. Besides, much like Zack Snyder, if there is one thing that Michael Bay can do well it's huge action scenes with a lot of CGI.

Transformers 2007 was actually pretty good and I agree the rating here on imdb is accurate with around seven stars. It also helped inspire Jon Favreau, if I remember reading correctly, to do Iron Man since he based the computer animation in that movie on Optimus and Megatron. I found the action was good and I also read the novelization, which was pretty good too and filled in some gaps here and there with the film.

Revenge of the Fallen was pretty good too. I think there were a myriad of problems that conspired to mess it up, most prominent of which was the infamous Writer's Strike which forced this film and a couple of others to have their production sped up. Michael Bay, a man I hardly agree with in opinions, also said that he wanted the film to have much bigger action scenes between Optimus and The Fallen.

Dark of the Moon, I believe, is okay and Michael Bay's comparison to Black Hawk Down is pretty accurate. I still wish there had been a few more scenes discussing Megan Fox's disappearance instead of just one line saying she was gone. Patrick Dempsey was an okay actor in it, though I notice that he pretty much always plays slime-bags like in Made of Honor and Grey's Anatomy.

Age of Extinction, as previously mentioned, is my least favorite due to the not-so-great plot, the plot holes revolving around most of the characters from the first three films not appearing, and the huge amount of heavy-and-in-your-face action scenes that were hard to follow. However, Kelsey Grammer (Attinger) and Mark Ryan (Lockdown) were great villains.

I agree, most of the characters in this series are pretty shallow in this series and there isn't more than meets the eye to them. Steve Jablonsky's score is not too bad, though, and the Soundtracks are good. I still love listening to Linkin Park's 'New Divide' on my iPhone occasionally as well as Imagine Dragons' 'Battle Cry', which are great songs. The CGI is pretty cutting-edge and fluid. Also, from a cynical point of view, the plots are pretty much how us Humans might react to First Contact with an Alien species who are living Robots. And like I said, Michael Bay knows how to make a serious action scene.

Plus, Spielberg and Bay did kind of miss the forest for the trees with having the first three movies be about 'a boy and his car' and having them focus on the humans instead of the robots. AOE did give us more relatable Transformers, at least to me, since they were sort of based on the characters from season One of Beast Wars.

I might go see The Last Knight actually in theaters. I am waiting on that teaser that Michael Bay just recently promised would come out later this year in November or December for more information. So far, I can't really imagine what the plot is going to be. From what little bits of information I have learned here on imdb, it is either going to be a mess or really just extremely confusing. It's supposed to have events from the Middle Ages, World War II Germany, and current Modern times plus a huge slew of characters, both human and robotic. So, either there is a considerable amount of flashbacks to King Arthur and WWII, or this is going to be a time-travel movie like Days of Future Past or a Terminator movie.

However, I am glad that John Tuturro, Josh Duhamel, and Tyrese Gibson are back from the first trilogy since that will give us some continuity between Dark of the Moon and Age of Extinction. My theory is that Simmons' probably in jail for crimes revolving around supporting the Autobots or in hiding like Edward Snowden. I haven't been watching the videos being posted on Facebook so I have nothing to substantiate this theory, but it seems like a good plot twist for the character of Agent Simmons.

Also, knowing that Michael Bay has made each film pretty darn long, I wouldn't put it past him to have The Last Knight be hitting the three hour mark.

So, here's what I think will be in The Last Knight:
- Time-Travel or major flashbacks involving King Arthur and World War II.
- 175 minute to 185 minute screenplay
- A lot of action scenes
- If the rumors about this having a $500 to $800 million budget are true, we may also see some space scenes or scenes on Cybertron.

What I am hoping for:
- If there is a Time-Travel plot, it will pull a Days of Future Past and the Transformers might get their boxy shapes and will make a universe where Humanity trusts the Autobots
- An explanation as to why Galvatron is calling himself Megatron again and how his body is different, again
- Character development for the Robots as well as the humans
- Explanation for the absence of Sam, Carly, Mikaela, Simmons, Lennox, Epps, Mearing and other characters in Age of Extinction.

Anyway, what are you hoping for from TF5? No trolling, please.

This series desperately needs a Days of Future Past style sequel.
