$260m budget???

Wow their budget on these films keeps getting higher and higher and the box office numbers aren't going down either. I don't know about the haters but I think this series will be here for a while, like the Fast and Furious films.

Good box office doesn't mean good quality

reply

Yeah I know. I wasn't talking about the quality though. What I meant was the Transformers films is going to stay for a long while.

Then its a good thing the OP didn't make that argument. In fact he didn't mention quality at all he said the franchise was very profitable.

reply

OP never said that good box office equals good quality.

Unlike Disney, Fox, Universal or Warner Bros. who have multiple franchises to go to, Paramount doesn't really have a big franchises apart from Transformers & Mission Impossible, so they are going to spend up big to try an get the biggest return. Hence the crazy budget. Of course big budgets don't always turn into big returns. Look at the last Transformers film.

reply

The last one made $1.1bn at the box office.

reply

The last one made LESS than the one before it, both domestically and worldwide.

The only reason it made anywhere close to the amount of the 3rd movie is because of the expansion of Chinese cinema. If the 4th movie was released only in the same number of Chinese cinemas as the 3rd movie, it would have NEVER reached $1-billion, just like it failed to reach even $250-million in the U.S. alone.

Michael Doofus Bay is losing his credibility as a filmmaker. He can't even get directing gigs anymore unless it's in Paramount, which is only hiring him because the stupid executives (90% of those executives have never been filmmakers themselves) fail to realize that Michael Doofus Bay is NOT the reason these horrible movies keep making any money.

All the other studios have caught on to the fact that Bay is a lecherous, heterosexist, misogynistic, egostistical hack with no scruples. The fact that his non-Transformers and non-Ninja-Turtles films keep flopping, shows that he is nothing without the big nostalgic franchises he continues to disrespect shamelessly.

reply

Oh wait, I just found out: His second Ninja Turtles movie bombed at the box office, which shows that the majority of audiences are catching on to what a pathetic hack he is.

Pain & Gain made over 3 times it's 26 million budget, not bad for an R-rated drama based on a true crime that's not highly prolific. Also, The Purge series has made over 318 million on a 22 million budget. Hardly flopping if you ask me.

And yet he's set to direct an adaptation of Ghost Recon for Warner Bros.. Nice try TycoNewRC, back under the bridge you go...
