Genuine question about alternate ideas:

I loved the first movie. I'm a G1 fanatic and when the first movie came out in 2007, while I could nitpick several things and found there was a little too much silly humour for my liking, I thought it was a solid blockbuster. The Decepticons felt like a genuine threat, Megatron and Starscream most of all. It was great to see The Autobots working together to battle them and the idea of this scared teenage boy who got caught up in the mix worked really well... the first time.

Fast forward to RoTF and we've got even more silly humor, more military, we're following Sam through college (who cares?) and The Decepticons start to feel like canon fodder to The Autobots. Oh, and we're looking for another Cybertronian artefact on Earth that nobody seemingly wanted before. This was a major let down and the worst of the bunch imo.

DoTM felt a little darker but was essentially RoTF again. Megatron put as a number 2 while the bots and cons race to uncover yet another Cybertronian artefact nobody was previously interested in (I know they mention that's what Megs flew to Earth for but... it was clearly the cube initially), following Sam through job searches (who cares?) blah blah.

AoE I actually enjoyed a on a few watches. The military was gone, Sam was gone, the humour is there but its not so much sexual innuendos and humping dogs and bots etc. But we're still looking for artefacts on Earth and such. It has many problems but are slightly different than the previous movies.

After seeing this trailer, we're about to see that Transformers have even more history with Earth, yet again. I'm sure we'll be looking for another forgotten artefact too, and the trailer even hints at giving us an explanation as to why there's a connection.

I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling that while I'm not a fan of this movie series, I am a fan of Transformers, will go and see it anyway, enjoy some it but feel it was pretty silly and repetitive upon reflection or even immediately when the movie ends.

But my question is, what other stories could they really do in live action?

I'd love to see the 1986 movie done in live action (though I dont think it could possibly live up to it) but besides that, it seems any other decent works for Transformer storytelling (TF Prime or IDW comics for example) only really work in on ongoing story form... I'm not sure if it could really work as a film and its sequels.

For example, I don't want a new bad guy each time, I just want Megatron/Galvatron to lead the cons... but would a general audience accept that for 5 movies? Hence we get The Fallen, Sentinel and Lockdown.

What kind of story could we really see in live action Transformers that doesn't have the bots and cons trying to beat eachother to the punch for something?

Sounds dumb but aliens invading earth and auto bots protecting humans, this finally proving they aren't a threat and they're good guys. Hey, cowboys and aliens looked dumb, it was actually ok lol.

Doesn't sound dumb at all, that's kind of what I expected and we sort of got it in the first movie (though it didn't revolve around that as much as The Cube).

I guess at this point, I'd rather see a movie with that simple premise in full swing instead of another hunt for a artefact, whether it be aliens or just in invading Decepticon army out to enslave instead of... hunt for something.

I would go see it lol. I would go see any transformers movie. I might end up disliking it but they're 2 for 2 with me right now. Really disliked 2 and 4. Had some great scenes in both movies but still... another story line could be that the earth is dying so all the auto bots from all over the galaxy have come to earth to help transport them to a new planet or space station that they've been building over X amount of years. Obviously this would be sad in the future, so there would be all new characters. And then they would run into trouble at the new planet are aliens or like you said the decepticons or something. I don't know

Yeah, I'll be honest, I'll go and watch one, whatever they do, lol!

The only one I really enjoyed so far is the first one. I really enjoyed the 4th (and some scenes from 2 and 3) but watching it again, it fell apart for me.

But it's Transformers at the end of the day, and I'm just a fan of that.
