I'm not sure how they could possibly continue this after the last Saw

Pretty much everybody who was connected to Jigsaw is dead save for Dr. Gordon (his 2 lackeys) and Hoffman.

Dr. Gordon final "mission" was to stop Hoffman if Jigsaws wife came to harm and he did just that, chaining him up in that Saw 1 bathroom but his fate is unknown.

All the previous films trap were either created by Hoffman, Amanda, or Jigsaw himself, Gordon only did superficial stuff like stitching the eyes in Saw 4 and Saw 2 Eye puzzle.

So... unless Gordon continues his legacy... which honestly I don't see happening, who else is left?

reply

They said Ryan will have a flashback scene with jigsaw, I'm guessing they will show him being a side apprentice to jigsaw at some point who takes over in the end

reply

He won't, pretty sure it's a different Ryan. Don't expect to many returning characters having important roles in this beyond Jigsaw himself.

reply

He won't, pretty sure it's a different Ryan

Why would they use two different characters with the same name, though? Literally makes no sense, it would be hugely confusing. Thousands of other names to choose from that would allow to avoid them getting things too convoluted.

reply

They've done it before in a Saw movie. Mark from the flammable jelly trap, Mark Hoffman, Amanda's Young, Timothy Young

reply

Jeff from the drill chair in Saw 1, Jeff Reinhart from Saw 3

reply

Daniel Matthews, Daniel Rigg

reply

Don't forget Dan Erickson lol. So that's 3 Daniels in the Saw series.

reply

He actor who played Ryan in Saw 3D is the same actor playing Ryan in this movie. It's the same character

reply

Nothing is confirmed. The rumours have been blown way out of proportion.

reply

nope.

Perhaps either Gordon carries on the legacy or one his Pighead assistants does so. This may be a stretch but what if Laura Vandervoort is related to Jigsaw or Hoffman and keeps it going? Far fetched but she's a bit of a well known name so I don't think she'll just be a quick trap victim

I'm all for more Saw but this seems to be overdoing it. They pretty much killed off every major recurring character in the last film (though I'd love to see Hoffman somehow return).

I'm surprised we never saw Fisk tested

reply

I'm surprised nobody has figured even a small part of the plot out yet..

reply

I think you can guess on plot elements pretty easily based on what we know so far. We actually know more about the plot of this one at comparable times in their respective production cycles than we have since Saw IV.

reply

maybe. but what i mean is nothing specific about the plot has leaked and nobody has gotten anything right yet plot wise. I know what it is and so far everything is wrong.. what are your guesses as to the plot?

reply

I can't really get all of my thoughts together right now, but I'm assuming the following:

> Matt Passmore and Callum Keith Rennie play detective / cop-type characters who are investigating a new Jigsaw case.

> Main game happens in a barn in real time with 2 to 4 people. Vandervoort and Van Peebles being the main characters?

> Jigsaw's grave is dug up and a few exterior scenes were shot. I'm guessing that being dug up is either done by fanatics who are presumed to be continuing Jigsaw's legacy, or they're dug up because of the cops/detectives being led to do it during their investigation.

> I'm assuming the cops / detectives are being tested somehow, as that always happens in Saw. Might be some sort of twist.

> We know an actress plays "Hannah's lookalike" in the movie. That could be for stunts, but she's an actress and I'd think they'd hire a stunt double for that, so I'm assuming the plot requires someone who looks like "Hannah" in the movie. Hannah could be a character's name, or it could be the recently announced cast member's name. In any case, I'm guessing that lookalike is a victim in the movie who the cops / detective are led to believe is someone they're looking for, but once they get to her they realize it's not her. That probably is a twist that plays into their "test".

> We know there's a trap that involves cars and motorcycles and spike strips, and someone on a motorcycle survives. I'm guessing that's a side-trap of sorts, perhaps the opening one, and that it will play into the main plot and will be investigated by the cops.

> We know Jigsaw says the name "Ryan" a lot. I don't think it's John Cor's character at all. But I guess it could be Van Peebles' character, or some new victim. If Tobin Bell was saying it on set a lot, it likely means that it's in a flashback scene? But it could also very well be that Tobin was on set to read the lines to the actors live before he ADRs the tapes later on.

Am I close to getting anything right? Anything you can share on your side?

reply

sorry can't share anything. I like my job. I will tell you that John cor is definitely not in this movie, and its not van peebles.

My personal hope is that the plot isn't focused on "Jigsaw apprentices", and that the movie is fairly standalone. But with a title like Saw: Legacy, I'm expecting to not be a big fan. I hope they recognize Saw 3D had major issues. In any case, thanks for working hard to make these movies as great as possible, whatever your role is. I've been a fan since the original, and I'd like to see the series being treated well again.

I'm a massive fan myself and it was a dream come true working on it.I can tell you from what i have seen, and i've seen a lot. It look's like it is gonna be really great. Something special.. Everybody that worked on it put 120% in every day. There were days we didn't leave till 4am.. I think everybody will be shocked at how good it will be..

I really like a lot of your ideas and feel like you're probably on the right track. I just started getting into "researching" all of what has been out there about Saw Legacy, and I'm still extremely confused of the direction they are going in. I've been an avid fan since Saw III and pretty much been obsessed. Still trying to figure out but I think you've definitely gotten a few things right. I feel like they will be harking back to the original Saw.

The barn will be kind of like the bathroom. It will be a game that plays out throughout the whole movie and will most likely involve the two women that were announced recently, possibly more like you said. I can't imagine them doing just 2 people as it would probably be way too similar to the original.

I also think you're probably right about the motorcycle and spike strips stunt, it has opening scene written all over it, unless it's some sort of trap for the police to come across.

At the end of the day, I hated the direction they went in with Saw 3D, it was just such an utter mess and all over the place. That is my big fear for Saw Legacy, that it is kind of a continuance of what they were trying to achieve with Saw 3D. I don't like the plot of having it as being a cult, and I really don't like the idea of Ryan being an apprentice. Just seems too annoying that EVERY victim who survives ends up being a disciple of Jigsaw (obviously not every, but it seems like that's what they're trying to allude to).

With Saw Legacy I'd like to see two things happen. A main trap that is similar to the bathroom, I don't want to see over the top traps like Saw 3D and don't want to see traps similar to Saw III/IV/VI/3D where it is one main character who decides the fate of others or walks from trap to trap to watch people play, this has been overplayed.

Now the most interesting part that I honestly have no clue about is what will be of the main plot outside of the games, and how do they connect. I think you're probably correct about the actors and the new cops. I honestly haven't watched Saw 3D in so long because I thought it was so horrid, but I remember really hating all the new detectives and the main detective in 3D. Lets hope that the detectives are similar to Saw or Saw IV which I loved the introduction of Strahm and Perez.

What I want to happen is I hope that Hoffman has a main role in this film as he's the series most interesting character that is alive. I hate that they killed off Jill in 3D as I always thought she was an interesting mysterious character. I could see this movie kinda being like Hoffman vs. Dr. Gordon in a sense, where Dr. Gordon is crazy and is carrying on John's wishes with some apprentices, and then you have Hoffman trying to get out of the bathroom and track down Dr. Gordon and kill him to stop the madness (as it's always been pretty obvious that Hoffman really never cared too much about the games and the method).

Wow that was a lot of rambling on my part, I am excited for this film, but at the same time EXTREMELY skeptical after the disaster that was Saw 3D. Also, the writing team behind this movie....well let's just say I'm not a fan of their resume, but the directors I'm intrigued by. I wish they would have went with a writing/directing team though that had ANY experience with the past Saw films.

Either way I'm expecting this film to be similar to Saw/Saw VI in a sense that it will be kinda standalone, a lot of new characters, and some very minor but important flashbacks that fans will enjoy. I do believe that Tobin Bell, Costas and Shawnee are back just based on what I've found online. Any other old characters I really have no clue about and really do not want them to go down the path that the public trap victims are behind the masks at the end of 3D.
