Still amazed at how awful the actress who plays Santanica is...

The way she pronounces words, and the way she moves her lips and shows her teeth. Her whole performance is centered around her mouth, and it all looks and sounds forced. Even the camerawork seems to be focused (literally) on her mouth. Weird.

Is anybody else noticing this? I wonder if English is her first language, but I would not be surprised if it in fact is, and she's just a bad actress who was only cast for her looks and body.

Yeah the actress is Mexican, so I think a big part of it is just her accent. But you're right there's a lot of emphasis on her mouth. I think it's supposed to be sexy. Which, in my opinion seems forced and false and watching her just becomes uncomfortable. And not in a good way. I dread her scenes. And I don't really feel the connection between her and Richie. Which is unfortunate because clearly that's a pairing they're going with.

I agree that they lack of chemistry but I don't think that santanica/Richie is the pairing they are going with...they basically just helped each other but nothing more, I think they'll go more for Richie/Kate & Seth/santanica... but it's not a romance show so probably there will be no pairings at all...

I think she's interesting to watch I don't find her as dull and boring as someone like Jessica Alba at least, who is just a stage prop. Eiza has some acting chops.

As a woman I hate how they are exploiting her, but her acting is good.....better than Jessica Alba indeed, I feel like Jessica Alba plays the same character in every movie.

Really? I like her. What guerorosas said about the exploitation stuff (surely, she could be not half-naked a bit more and the story would still work), but I think she does a good job with selling the character as sympathetic and watchable.

I can't stand her voice-over work (comes off as trying to sound tough to me) but don't mind her on-screen performances at all.

I would agree that her voice overs, at the start of the episodes this season, are not good. I would also agree that they rely too much on the actress's looks. The character has a great backstory, but sometimes I feel like the character has no real depth. Just a quick Google search let me know that while Eiza González has been acting since 2007, this is her first English-speaking part.

She is not the worst actress I've ever seen, but there are times when she is over the top. Of course, I often think Wilmer Valderrama is over the top as Carlos.

This is a Robert Rodriguez production. Over the top is pretty standard for him.

Eiza has a good screen presence but she's pretty lousy when it comes to acting. I sort of get the Steven Seagal vibe where her face is exactly the same when's she's sad, happy, angry etc.

I've only seen season one, but I thought that casting across the board is one of this show's strong points . IMO it's hard to imagine a better actor/actress to replace the current ones in any of the roles, not to mention some of them were hard to pull off, like the cartoony professor. I thought that the actor in that role did as best as anyone could of done considering how outlandish it was.

Yes, the casting is excellent! I happen to think Eiza Gonzàlez does a great job as Santanico, especially since it's her first ever English-speaking role.

I thought I was the only one that felt this way. Every time she talks, I want to throw something at my tv. She is such a beautiful woman, but it does seem like she is trying extra hard to be sexy, which she doesn't need to do. I don't like how she keeps sticking her tongue out and pokes out her mouth when she speaks. It seems completely unnatural and just forced.

At least she's better than Max from Black Sails. Wow she's bad. The most boring, dispassionate, monotonous performance i've ever seen.
