TigerLily and the Pickaninny tribe wasn't native american

Pickaninny is an english word which refers to dark-skinned children usually of African descent or a racial caricature thereof.

so if you want to get technical Tigerlily should be black not native american

but the problem with the original story was That the Pickaninny tribe was a racist depiction of Black children.
google Pickaninny and go to images you will see that its very much the BLACK FACE

it wasn't meant to be endearing to African's as well it was meant as an insult

You said so yourself that the term was used for dark skinned children USUALLY of african decent. Not all dark skinned people are black. Originally it was used as a term of endearment. The 3 factors were young, dark skinned and resistant or immune to pain. In the original plays and novel the Piccaninny (how it was spelled then) tribe were described as american indian. The key to using the term was it being a racial caricature. The author stated that he wanted an exaggerated version of the american indian through a childs eyes. But no, they were never meant to be black.
