What a wonderful film! (Slight Spoilers, review)

I think to really admire this film you need to be a Pan fan through and through. I've been brought up from the age of 2 till now in love with the tale from the Mary Martin TV musical version, to Hook, Disney's classic, the 2004 films, loved Finding Neverland, etc.

The cast was great, race irrelevant. This was obviously a kids film complete with the silly moments such as the mean orphanage lady being over the top, Peter hurting his male-parts, the way people acted before they died like 'oops', Tiger Lilly and Hook flirting, etc.

I think Peter was perfectly selected. He was adorable with just the right amount of spitfire. Hugh's blackbeard was the right amount of OTT for a kid's film. I don't even like Rooney much and think she did well in her role.

I was happy they cut Wendy and the rest of the tale from the story (I know Wendy had been cast at some point).

Overall I say 8/10.

Joe Wright's direction does not fail, the costumes and colors of the cinematography is stunning. I loved the use of color even in the gun shots. There was the perfect amount of surreal reality in this Neverland.

Only negatives were Smee being too effeminate, Hook's accent, and the odd way Peter got to Neverland (Never bought the orphans for the mines thing). I would have liked a part 2 of seeing how Hook became foe.

I had my doubts about paying to see this film after all the negative reviews. However I am so glad I gave it a shot. Again, if you love Peter Pan's story you will appreciate this film!

I totally agree. After I saw OUAT, I became Peter Pan fan so me and my friends went to see this film and we were not disappointed.

No, consider me a fanboy, but good for you if you enjoyed it. A movie is supposed to be enjoyed when you watch it, not annoying you for two hours straight, that's just a shame.

In my case, I found the whole movie jarring, well, good acting by Levi Miller, enjoyable hamming by Hugh Jackman, some stunning visuals and good music, but that was about it.

To me, a 'movie for kids' should be made respectfully, make sense, and preferably be enjoyable on a number of levels, because these age-old, often wise and dark-edged tales have something meaningful and morally interesting to tell us all - including adults. If it starts to feed on loads of other classic stories that have been done before, and better, and the point of reference becomes a 'postmodern' video game where anything goes, as long as it makes a lot of noise, cartoon characters keep running, jumping and fighting, and loads of stuff is thrown at you in 3D, you lose me.

And though I'm obviously not a child, I think a child deserves better than a dazzling but ultimately very shallow spectacle.
