Problem With Peter Pan's Behaviour.

This will be short as I don't want to give spoilers, so anyone whose seen the film will understand.

One of the main prblems I had with the Film was that Peter Pan acts too mature and grown up. This seems to run contrary to what Peter Pan is supposed to be. Peter Pan is supposed to be an Eternal Youth, a Child that never grew up, and who acts like a Child. he's forgetful, he's energetic, he's selfish, he plays games, ect...he never takes anythign seriously and see's it all as one big game.

This Pan, however, is the leader of a Revolution agaisnt Tyranny who defiantly says he won't bow to Blackbeard, (In one of the Trailers) and who consistently acts lek he's in his mid 30's the whole Time. he's all abotu responcibility and is a very serious, sobre fellow.

Doens't that contradict what Peter Pan is supposed to be?

reply

You're absolutely right. He's wicked serious and it's such a drag.

reply

I know.

reply

Yes but this is all before he "finds" himself.

reply

I don't blame the kid actor, I blame the script.

This is one of those "from a different perspective" type movies. BUT at the end you see Peter enjoys having fun.

reply

I think most peopel enjoy having fun, but the thig is, Peter Pab is supposed to be an Eternal Child who escaped t Neverland so he'd never have to grow up, which includes abandonign any sense of Responcibility. He isn't goign t lead a Rvolution to overthrow Tyranny, he isn't going to assume responcibility to lead people, he's literally just all about fun and games.

Or that's ow he's supposed to be anyway.

reply

Again, I think this movie is merely a "what-if" type movie, not really canon to the true story. Like the story of Wicked that portrayed the Wicked Witch of the West as a victim that you feel sorry for, when really, she's a 110% evil villain in the real story. The narrator even said this is not the story you're familiar with.

Also like the Tinkerbell movies are not really canon. Tinkerbell sees a young Wendy in the 1st movie, BUT in the real story, Peter and Tink had supposedly been hanging out together since LONG before Wendy was born, b/c Wendy's mother tells the story of Peter and Tink.

reply

wrong he didn't escape to neverland so he would never grow old. he simply refused to grow old because peter is a magical being he couldn't grow old because of his refusal it doesn't matter where he is. he will never grow old. he is in fact the only person in neverland who doesn't grow old

reply

Thing is, Peter only really works when he's not the main character.

Wendy was the real main character of the Peter Pan story, and she eventually rejected Peter's ways as well to return home. In his own way, Peter's also a villainous character. His eternal childish-ness makes him come off as mildly sociopathic as well.

My guess is that the Director and writers felt he wouldn't be sympathetic enough unless they changed him into your typical hero archetype.

reply

Exactly. The fact is that Barrie,in the original play, takes pains to point out that Peter "never growing up" creates huge problems. Of the various film versions, only the 2003 version got this right.
But the Peter Pan of this P.O.S. film not NOTHING right about Peter Pan.

He is not James Barrie's Peter Pan. He's more like Luke Skywalker. But as another poster said above, this movie is before he "finds himself." He is an abused orphan who did not grow up in Neverland as a lost boy.

reply

I had no problem with Levi Miller's performance. He was in an orphanage and was restricted. Then he finds himself as Peter Pan in Neverland. I had hoped there would be a sequel. Oh, well...

I like the Luke Skywalker comparison.

Did he even talk to any kids once he got to Neverland? No. So how can he act like a kid and play games and have fun? He can't because he has responsibilities, which is totally opposite to what Peter Pan represents.

Oh because Hook needed him to break out of prison and he didnt have enough time to talk and gather his troops so to speak

How is Hook and Peter
