Not the first MCU show to be given an 18 (Daredevil season 2), but I wasn't expecting Iron Fist to get an adults only rating. This gives us an insight into how violent the show is going to be:
The Netflix shows are very violent so a 12 rating would've been impossible really, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Daredevil season 1 all are rated 15, but Daredevil season 2 is rated 18 and if you made through that season then this one should be no problem for you.
Iron Fist's origin story is going to be extremely violent and bloody. Just like Daredevil. The MARVEL Netflix shows are ALL intended for adults and they aren't going to change that. I don't expect nudity, sex, or swearing. But expect bloody action reminiscent to Daredevil. The show will without a doubt be TV MA and rated 18. Also Daredevil and Jessica Jones were rated 15 and were still violent.
The Iron Fist comics are mostly T+. I doubt that they would rate this 18. Maybe 1 or 2 of the episodes will be 18 but not all of them. I also read an article saying that this would be lighter than other Netflix adaptions. Not all Netflix Marvel shows have to be TVMA or 18. I agree with you that this won't be 12 but I think 15 would be more suitable for this show. I think it will be like Gotham but lighter.
Do you know how the BBFC work? They rate every episode of the show individual and the episode with the highest rating is what the show will be rated. Just some examples here: Game of Thrones season 5: Episodes 1-9 are rated 15, but episode 10 is rated 18 therefore the whole season is rated 18. Here's an even more complicated example: Bojack Horseman season 2: Episode 5 is rated PG, episodes 1,2,4,7,8,9,10 and 12 are rated 12, episodes 3 and 11 are rated 15 and episode 6 is rated 18, therefore the whole season is rated 18. It's not that difficult to understand, even though other episodes don't have an 18 rating, that one episode that does suddenly makes the whole season an 18. http://www.bbfc.co.uk/search/releases/bojack%2Bhorseman?page=2
By the way I just checked and it got a 15 not an 18. Only number 7 is 18.
- That still makes it an 18 rated series, you can't just ignore episode 7 because it is part of the season

R-ratings are just silly. So far all these shows come of as needing a rating that lets one know ahead of time that only people possessed of low mental acuity ought watch them. Seeing as they are so absurdly daft as to be comical, bordering on satire.
Still keep recalling Daredevil where the character bemoans the use of firearms because "they" kill people and he never hurts anyone.. So him smashing the back of an opponents head over and over again(more then 5 times) into a cement floor until the guy is obviously dead or even worse a *beep* up vegetable for the rest of his existence.. it does not count.
Anyway most of these series are so full of the pervasive american double standard that I often found myself exclaiming out loud in disgust along with gesticulations reminiscent of an enraged Italian fellow.. Now I am a Swede and we usually do not do such things seeing as we are all meek n such..
So on the whole I barely notice the so called "violence" for all the other overly pervasive fecal matter which these shows are so full of.
