Am I the only one? Stranded in a unfamiliar place after a wreck, learning martial arts, escaping the "Island", etc... this is Marvel's version of Arrow! Hell, he's also a Billionaire.. like Oliver Queen!
That is the exact same thought I had. Trailer seemed like it was for an Arrow remake. This is what brought me here, to see if anyone else felt the same.
Vague, broad? Billionaire family goes traveling, accident ensues, all presumed dead. Son survives, gets trained in nearly super-human fighting skills. Returns, looking all scruffy, to take back his family's huge company.
That describes what I saw in the trailer, and it describes the premise for Arrow exactly.
Because there's no specifics. Those are the broad descriptions of what happened.
Oliver Queen doesn't get super powers. Oliver Queen isn't destined to destroy a cult of undead ninjas. Oliver Queen had family when he got home. Oliver Queen wasn't actually stranded the whole time he was away. The Queens weren't specifically looking for the Island when they departed. Merlyn didn't take over Queen Consolidated. Oliver wasn't greeted coldly by Tommy. Merlyn wasn't being manipulated by a shadowy figure. There's no grand lore to Oliver's backstory.
Martian Manhunter and Superman have the same broad similarities. Last survivor of their race. Similar powers. Female "relative" who survived and become something of a sidekick. Take human identities. Have a crippling weakness to an element. Struggle with being the last of their kind. Both characters are very different despite this.
Honey, you might be queen nerd, but the trailer for Iron Fist doesn't give any of that information. We're discussing the trailer here -- the only thing we've seen of the show so far.
The trailer seems specifically structured to appeal to fans of Arrow.
You're acting as if you're upset by this fact. That's a sign of a control freak. Here's a hint: you can't control how the trailer looks, nor can you control how people react to it. That would be like me telling you that your life would be vastly more meaningful if you spent more time away from your kiddie comics.
Oliver Queen doesn't get super powers. Iron Fist does in the trailer. Oliver Queen had family when he got home. Iron Fist doesn't in the trailer. Oliver Queen wasn't actually stranded the whole time he was away. Danny Rand was in the trailer. Merlyn didn't take over Queen Consolidated. Harrold Meachum does in the trailer. Oliver's survival wasn't treated coldly by Tommy. Grant does in the trailer. Merlyn wasn't being manipulated by a shadowy figure. Harrold does in the trailer. There's no grand lore to Oliver's backstory. There is in the trailer. I only deleted 2 or 3 things from my original post. The rest is common knowledge to anyone following the show's updates.
Targeting towards fans of Arrow would be ineffective. Too small a target audience and most of them are in denial over the Netflix shows being better than theirs.
Try not to act like such a condescending twat when people question you, you can't control when people don't take your word as gospel. It makes you look like bitch.
Why when people make comments like these can't people do a little bit of research. It's lazy and no it is not an excuse
Anyway it is not 'like Arrow' .. Arrow never got stranded anyway for years on end and learned martial arts. Iron Fist's story has always been that he was raised in K'un Lun from an early age. That is not even Batman's origin. The only similarities is that he, Batman and Arrow are billionaires, but so is Tony Stark. Arrow origin is that he loses his fortune and then becomes helping the disadvantaged in his area.
But the whole trope of 'guy comes back to reclaim what is his' is not from Marvel or DC in the first place.
I like Marvel but I'll be honest and yes it does have a Arrow feel to it. But what can you do? That was standard origin telling of the time. Young wealthy heir goes away and learns awesome skills only to return and fight evil.
