Rohypnol prescribed for sleep?

Maybe I didn't follow - but seemed movie implied the doc prescribed at her request Rohypnol for sleep (and that's what she put in the bottle in the drawer). But I read that that drug is illegal; is what's referred to as "date rape" drug.

That seemed strange to me too. Also, when she spills the pills on the bathroom floor didn't whoever cleaned it up wonder why all those pills were there? It's never mentioned again.

And all the pieces matter (The Wire)

I think when the husband and she were in pinkberry he asks her "do you still want to be here." Might be an imputation of her prior atempt at taking her life.
The scene where the housekeeper comes in she drops the pills and it's clear she doesn't remember what she was doing.
So chances are the caretaker came upstairs asked Alice what the pills were. Alice said she didn't know and the housekeeper and her husband dropped the subject because she didn't remember.

Maybe it's legal in certain extreme cases, like hers?
