So this one tried to be a loooot of things...

The movie tried to be The Bourne Identity.
Jesse Eisenberg tried to be a super agent.
Kristen Stewart tried to have emotions.
Topher Grace tried to act adult.
Bill Pullman tried to be Robert De Niro.

And did any one of them succed? No. Not by a long shot. Sure they are actors and all, with their trying to be someone else in the movies, but this kind of stuff they can keep in front of their bathroom mirrors.

Oh, but everything you described...it was not. AU was making fun of the super soldier films. (Mike was a nonviolent, slow thinking, anxiety driven, stoner)
The character driven comedy, subtle at times...Appolo Ape, Spicy Tomato leading the resistance and then dinging out Astro dog...OK, I thought it absurdly funny. Astro dog?
It was fun, twists that made everything fall into place.
