She is a nightmare in this one, believe me. Very well acted, but a nightmare if there ever was one. Go see this beautiful film and you will agree with me.

Yes. Shes meant to be a nightmare: the archetype of the capricious shrew. An perhaps an example of resentful old age in contrast to the main characters.
