Cheesy old movie or something deeper?

When I first saw the trailer it appeared to be just like "the best exotic marigold hotel" but it kept going and looked like it had a lot more substance. For people who have seen this is it more surreal/arty like or cheesy and banal?

Real arty movies don't have or need big celebrities in them,
they have a point and a plot.

These kinds of movie are more profitable vanity star-based
movies, schmaltzy and corny mostly, with actors peolpe will
pay to see pick their noses or make bodily noises.
