I'm not prudish. It's just that there was so much n*dity in this movie it was a shock.

Obviously you have not been to many european spa resorts.. Not everyone is as hung up on nudity as countries like the USA etc,

reply

I'm talking about an enormous amount of nudity in this, not just a little. I was offended.

reply

This must be a joke. How can u be offended by nudity? How is that even something you can get offended by?

Do you hate the human body or are you offended by cats and dogs running around naked as well?

reply

how can you claim not to be prudish, yet feel OFFENDED by naked bodies? Like..in what way was the naked human body offensive to you????
Just say you are a goddamn conservative stuck up person, instead of trying to be what you are Obviously not!!!
Grow up. Yes, movies may have Lots of nudity, and it's not a big deal. it's not like the characters are practicing extreme violence or anything like that. Nudity does no harm. got it?
And if you find this Too Much Nudity, and Shocking!! then I don't know how your heart can handle some of the other movies that are out there.

reply

Why the fkk type it "n*dity"????? this alone makes you Prudish!!!! how dumb.

If you can't even bring yourself to spell "nudity", you're pretty prudish.

reply

hahaha exactly. Like (s)he had to censor the word itself! The idea of nUdity alone shocks him/her. What an idiot.

reply

The majority of it was very matter-of-fact. There was only one instance I can recall where the nudity was presented in a sexual way.

I wasn't. But then I've spent a fair bit of time in Europe. They have a far more progressive view on nudity. In Berlin for example the park in the middle of the city is nudist. It's common in summer to walk through the park and see people strip off completely during their lunchbreak.
Most spas in Germany are unisex and nude - compulsory nude. You would be asked to either strip or leave if you went in clothed. Heck, a couple of years ago there were nudist flights there! You could fly naked on some flights within Germany.

Just because you're prudish and your ultra-religious upbringing has warped you into finding the human body repulsive doesn't mean Europe is also.

Nailed it! I can't believe how prudish some people are. This takes place in a spa resort, obviously people won't walk around fully clothed all the time!

The OP can't even get him/her self to type the word NUDITY. Let alone see it!!! He probably hates himself for knowing that under his clothes, he is Naked.

You are complaining about too much nudity in “Youth” (I wasn't shocked), but you should consider that in European movies you can come across naked bodies at every corner (frame); even in Italy, despite the presence of Vatican.... Moreover, if there isn’t too much sex (no thrusting, I mean), movies in Italy are for general audience, with no limitation. In fact, "Youth" is rated “for everyone” (in the US is "R", I can see), that means it can be broadcasted on TV on prime time. And this happened last year with another Paolo Sorrentino’s movie (The great beauty, Oscar winner), that contained both female and male frontal nudity. Actually there was a nearly close up of a vulva (be careful: cinema is reign of fake, we won’t ever know if that was a wig or a real one). However, that movie was on air at 9pm. It’s the same in France (even more permissive), not to mention northern countries. They are much more concerned about violence, that is treated with severity: it’s easy, for example, to have an “NC17” just for violence.
Nowadays even in Hollywood cinematography naked bodies are present more and more; in the recent “The martian” (pure sci-fi technological movie) they found the way to put a (brief) shot from the back of a man entirely nude. Conclusion: you should get used to nudity, otherwise in a few years you won’t find a movie to watch…

Not everyone suffers from the serious mental disorder of being offended by the human body.

lol this reminds me of a post I read on a different film. The person asked if there is any nudity in the film and if so they will not watch it because they find nudity "Distasteful". I wonder if it's the same user... Anyway I got no problem if people don't want to watch films with nudity but when I see statements like "I was offended." Really!??? Give me a break. It was just nudity. I can see someone being offended by Irreversible or A Serbian Film but not this...

I grew up amongst Scandinavian immigrants and their descendants, so I make allowances for people having different attitudes toward naked people in movies and real life. Case in point; despite a healthy culture of using saunas and swimming naked in the rivers, the people I knew growing up (1960s & 1970s) did draw a line between casual nudity among family and friends and public modesty. Even today when I go back for visits (Washington state) I would be surprised to see local men eating in fast food places while wearing tank tops, or local women in tube tops. Likewise the guests in Youth mostly dressed for dinner despite being comfortably naked in groups of both men and women in the spa areas. The care and nurture of the body went along with the restoration of the mind and emotions.

That's not being prudish, that's being modest. However, most of the people I grew up around would not be bothered at all by the nudity in a film like Youth because it's a natural, even essential, aspect of what the resort's guests were there to experience. I found the lazy pace, casual nakedness in steam rooms, pools, etc. to be necessary to foster the mental relaxation that the characters and the audience were supposed to be connecting with as the story went along.
