This is another decent show that the network dumped on and gave no respect. They pumped it out as fast as possible , it seems, to make it disappear.
Greedy fools run these networks. They toss good shows for cheap to produce reality garbage. This was another show with an enjoyable story and great characters. The actors all had good chemistry. What a wasted opportunity.
I love the show as much as everyone here, but come on! Ratings were terrible the first season and they had no reason to renew it but they did.
I honestly think that quirky shows that are also musicals simply cannot succeed on network tv. Crazy ex girlfriend is also brilliant but doesn't have much of an audience either.
The only people I blame are Emmy voters. Galavant should have won multiple awards, as it's truly brilliant.
I blame the low ratings on the Network's obvious disdain for the show. There was no decent advertising. The advertising they did produce made this look like the worst idea for a show ever.
I started watching the first season last year with my opinion formed, based on the commercials. It was going to be a painfully horrible show and I tuned in for the train wreck. Surprisingly though, despite the horrible trailers, the show was great.
I think the trailers made everyone groan and no one wanted to waste their time on a show they made look so awful. No one gave it a chance. They made up their minds, like me, before it aired. Unlike me though, the majority didn't bother to see if they were wrong. Again, network failings.
I honestly don't know. It seems they clearly regretted it. Just my opinion. It was supposed to run 8 or 10 weeks. They rushed it and pushed it all out in 4 weeks. It seems they wanted it to disappear as soon as possible, and I don't know why.
Even the script didn't coincide with the airings. They joked about time frames that didn't match up due to the condensing of the season. It was just unfortunate it received the treatment it did.
jberning replied May 12, 2016 It was never planned for 8-10 weeks. They always planned to air it in January just like with season 1.
Not true at all. Watch season 2 again. They specifically mention dates in the show as a joke that was supposed to sync with actual air dates. The joke didn't work since the show ended earlier than it was supposed to and the battle and finale didn't take place on the originally planned dates.

The reason this show had a second season was the former ABC head liked the show, and gave it another chance, now that he left the new person in charge is likely to axe the show. Galavant was lucky they had a very important fan
Yes sad news. I heard about it on the radio this morning. The DJs had a list of 10-12 shows that just got the boot. Galavant was among them as was CBSs CSI: Cyber. Not really surprised by what was on the list. Sadly the DJ reading the list hadn't heard of Galavant.
Wednesday night notwithstanding, I only had 2 reasons to watch ABC - Galavant and Agent Carter. Now I have 2 fewer reasons. Considering all the other garbage that's on TV, it seems strange that shows that are truly interesting like this are treated as mere "time-filler" until something else comes along.
and both those shows got second seasons because the ex head of the network liked them, i truly respect him for giving them a shot despite their numbers not being great, i dont doubt he had a lot of opposition and frankly both shows had every bad thing thrown at them but he still pushed them through. Only to lose his job, but at least he went out with a bang.
