Conservatives got my old account banned for spreading the truth about Matt Walsh
But please, tell me again how it's the left attacking free speech.
shareBut please, tell me again how it's the left attacking free speech.
shareSo in response to getting your account banned by spamming Sam Seder crap, you create a new account dedicated to spamming more Sam Seder crap? Galaxy brain move there. π
shareBoth right and left tend to try to get the other one banned/silenced and then claim they're the champions of free speech because the other guys are the ones doing the banning.
Very few people are actually walking that slim path of defending speech they themselves don't like.
If this idiot was posting his drivel in text form, and engaging in conversations, there would be no issue. But they're literally spamming links to a single Youtube channel - essentially clogging the forum up with ads.
This is logically against the rules for a message board such as this, and is hardly suppressing freedom of speech. Thou shall not spam is sacred internet etiquette for good reason.
I didn't know if it was a "legitimate" ban or not, but since I had no information I wasn't going to engage in that argument. I was, rather, simply hoping to prod at the presupposition a lot of people have that free speech is a left/right issue, and in my observation, it isn't. Sometimes the left is a bit better at it, sometimes the right is a bit better at it, but ultimately, they will all try to ban each other. My contention is that, if we care about our speech, we should be wary of wedding ourselves to a political ideology and try to hold all islands in the political sea accountable to one of the most important, basic human rights.
shareGenerally I'd agree with you on the "both sides do it" thing, but to say the right engages in suppressing speech as much as the left is a bit disingenuous I think.
The mainstream left have literally made it part of their platform, and openly want to undermine the first amendment under the guise of "misinformation" and "hate speech". I don't see such a campaign from the right, quite the opposite.
It's why they're dramatically waving their arms around about a site like X, where they're unable to control the narrative with these tactics, and want to hold Elon Musk accountable for daring not to fall in line.
But it oscillates. I would agree that, generally-speaking, the right is more free speech friendly right now, but through the '90s and 2000s, they were not. They were much more likely to try and shut down arts programs just because the arts program was doing something they didn't like.
These days, we can still see it with a fierce opposition to drag queen shows. And we can auto-play the next moves of this conversation. I'll pre-acknowledge that twerking in g-strings for kids is bad and should not happen and both the drag show producers and parents should be ashamed of themselves. I acknowledge that anybody using "story time" to read propaganda to kids (or adults) is a goofball (although that shouldn't be shut down necessarily), and I will acknowledge that there is a difference between censorship and promoting certain things through a school system. However. Above and beyond that, I have seen moves to shut down drag queen story time entirely, and if the drag artist is just cross-dressing and reading Dr. Seuss, it shouldn't be shut down. We might not like it, but it's being fought at a legislative level and that's clearly censorship.
I don't want to start firing cases back-and-forth. Again: I'm agreeing that it's worse on the left right now. But, my overall point is that it doesn't take much to flick that back to the right because the right are only "free speech" right now because they've noticed that the left is getting more authoritarian with the thought crime thing. If the right was more comfortably in power, they'd probably happily go back to censoring things they didn't like.
If you watch FIRE's Youtube channel, you can get a pretty good sense that this is a bipartisan problem, even if the left are worse at the moment.
No. You are suppressing speech that destroys your argument. It's why Conservatives run from Sam because they know they aren't smart like him.
shareFeel free to communicate all your galaxy brain arguments in an actual argument, instead of being a filthy degenerate link spammer. Think you can handle that, bud?
shareIt's the left attacking free speech. Duh.
shareYou were banned for spamming as you just have been again and will continue to be if you keep spamming the same Youtube channel.
